Durham v Hampshire (A) C.C.

Well hopefully I can keep the unbeaten run to continue to 3 matches after that much needed win at Worcester where probably the only good thing about the game was the win.
I suppose the main question about the starting Xl will be the availability of Potts, Doggett and Gay. There will be some interesting decisions if they are all available.
The Hampshire game will be the 5th championship match in 5 weeks and it's only the 2nd of May which is pretty brutal.
Hampshire have got off to a steady start with a win and two draws from their opening 3 matches. Looking at their line up they don't appear to be as strong as they have been over the past few years without Vince and Abbas.
It should be a decent game with the weather on the up.

Not seen any explanation for Gay's omission v Worcester. I'd go with Potts, Yusuf, Raine and Ball in attack. If Gay is available, it would be very tough on Clark to be omitted.
Drissell omitted and rely on Ackerman for spin.

I suppose with Drissell it depends on the pitch. They have got Dawson who is at a different level to what we gave got but it's still the first week in May so probably seam will still dominate.
Feel a bit for Clark but I don't like seeing a specialist batsmen at 7 in the order and playing only 4 front line bowlers especially when it's the 5th game in 5 weeks.
At least it appears we are not scratching around for players like we where a week ago.

There needs to be significant contributions from Will Rhodes (averaging 11 from 7 innings with a high score of 21) and Ollie Robinson (averaging 12 from 6 innings with a high score of 22*) with the bat, otherwise I’d say that their position should be scrutinised. I was going to judge them at New Road but obviously it was a poor batting track.

Problem is we have no suitable replacements.

It won’t turn.

Dawson is just very very economical regardless of service, I agree with post above Potts, Raine, ball and yussef

Reluctant to leave out Clark now I think about it

Think he adds something our other batters don’t

Probs leave out Rhodes although he did nothing wrong last game
Baking hot down here atm. Might dry the wicket a bit more. I hope we stuff the scabs.

Totally forgot about the weather like

Im on holiday, yeah fair point ignore my post above

From what I saw of the saffer, bit different, I’d drop ball

Agree on Rhodes but Robinson is a massive talent and he needs backing by the club

He played a great knock last game to win it remember

He would have to get like 6 ducks in a row to get dropped for me

Do we even have another wicket keeper
Bowman (currently keeping for the 2s) has considerable potential but is still young - no idea what the story is with Mustard jnr, but there's also Mustard jnr jar (who was keeping and opening for the Academy last week).

Ah aye, hadnt heard Haydon Mustards name mentioned in a while

Poytner name suddenly appearing on the 2nd team scoresheet.
Any news on why Gay isn't playing?
Poynter was fielding at Third Man in the brief time I was there. Stan Mac wasn't on the pitch as well. No news on Gay's injury but he'd posted something which suggested he was still at home while the team were down Southampton.
