Good innings from the lads, 273-6 highest score of the day. Good knocks from Colly and Muchall, hopefully defend this one better than the other day.

Anybody there?

Sounds like Muchall batted well again continuing his excellent one day form from last season. I think he and Smith are both in the last year of their current contracts. I thought at the start of the season they would be two dead men walking, but it will give the management something to think about if they keep this run of form up come contract talk time.

Aye Muchall was class today and we'd be stupid to get rid of him as he brings a lot to the table in One day and T20 comps.

Shaky start to our Batting though but it was class when they got into gear and our Bowling did a class job of controlling the Derby batting whenever they tried to get going anarl.

Onwards and upwards!

I was told off one of the players that the wage bill has to be reduced by over £1m to £800k PA. It is therefore odds on that some of the players wont be offered new contracts and will leave unless a financial solution is found to the mess that the club has got themselves in.

About 3 years ago I attended an after match event in which David Harker turned up. I warned him then that he needed to keep a tight reign on the finances. He wasnt very impressed.

Look where we are now. :-?

That sounds about right as far as the wage structure goes. I think the likes of Leicestershire and Glamorgan are about at that level.
The biggest concern is that we will not be able to keep a hold of the likes of Stokes and Borthwick who wealthier counties will be able to offer far better terms than Durham.

I rate Borthwick, but quite frankly if he wants to develop his bowling, he's playing on the wrong ground.

Winning the county championship would realise £500k ;-)

I imagine Benkenstein and Harmison will be off the wage bill next season

There already appears to have been some severe cuts in the admin. staff and since we exceeded the salary cap there have been severe pruning in the playing staff Pudsey, Blackwell, Divo, Davies and imminently Harmison.
As from next year each county gets approx £2,000,000 grant from the ECB. The club have been too liberal in awarding lucrative contracts particularly to ageing players and Harker ,as CEO,has to accept a major share of the blame for that.
Our players salary bill wont have been cut by £1 million yet but we should be operating within our budget given the further revenue we can raise from concerts and the corpoate side.

Get rid of Harmison, Claydon, Brathwaite that would free up quite abit.

We have plenty of options in the bowling ranks.
Clearly those 3 will be at risk. There will have to be a bigger emphasis on the youth development and the use of academy players in the next year or three.

I get the impression that things from U11 upwards at the DCB are starting to hot up a bit. More coaching in particular for those that show the greatest promise.

Harmison is going. It'll be interesting too see whether he plays another first team game. Maybe the last one to give him the opportunity to walk off the pitch at the end of the match.

As for Benkenstein. I'll be honest I'm not sure whats going on and what the transition plan is. Cook shows no signs of wanting to give up which is fair enough TBH but hopefully Durham will have a transition plan in place for when he decides its time to perhaps go back to the Academy.

I think Harmy may already have gone. I don't think he has played for the seconds since a couple of 20/20 matches against Scotland a month ago. I don't know if anyone has seen him around the ground in the last month. That is always a good sign when a player has been told he has no future at the club, they normally clear off pretty sharpish although thats normally in August not May and Harmy does have his benefit. Personally i would be surprised if he plays another match for Durham.

I can't see Harmy leaving quietly, being dragged out the gates kicking and screaming comes to mind. Even now he's still saying he has a lot to offer Durham and he's hoping to be kept on in some capacity when his current contract expires.
