Durham v Derbyshire 11th-14th July

Very disappointing.

I fear we are in danger of just becoming another also-ran club these days. Just another Leicestershire or Worcestershire. It’s a world away from where we were 10 years ago. People say we should just worry about producing players for England but I want to see Durham competing for trophies.

Major changes are needed this summer.
The club is an absolute mess to be honest. Whole thing is a shadow of it's former self and when I mean club I don't just mean the players and coaching staff. The ground has been an absolute tip this year and still is only a week before we host an international. Communication from the club is virtually non existent (members forums for example). Obviously my thoughts are well known about the coaching staff, it's a results business irrelevant what happens tomorrow, major changes are needed. Quality of pitch/wicket has been well below par so far this year. Just very sad & frustrating to see really. Results speak for themselves. I do worry for us with this current lot running the show, none of them seem bothered. If they were bothered then I'd expect some sort of communication with the members and media (whom they very rarely speak to also).

i'm not sure i agree - i think the team has been below par and the pitch has took the brunt of the blame. we've not been able to bowl teams out on it. other sides have put on big scores making it look like a batting track then we've collapsed out for very little - that's down to our quality not the pitch.

when potts was in the side it wasn't such a big issue but one player can't bowl a side out. rushy has finally found his usual excellent form in this game but again, there's no support. if rushy & potts were in the side and in form together nobody would be complaining about it is my honest opinion.

why we've signed his maddison bloke instead of a new ball bowler i've no idea. bushnell, eckersely, dickson are all good enough to be playing in this match, while our bowling attack features a lad i'd barely heard of, coggers who is almost permanently injured or out of form who promptly got injured and got replaced by salisbury, who himself didn't get in the matchday squad ahead of oliver gibson - why is gibson picked in the squad ahead of him but not the team?

i wholeheartedly agree it's an almighty mess atm

I think it's more the balls than the pitches- Badger in today's end of play interview articulated it pretty well. Another non show before the media by Franklin I might add. Manddison admitted in his introductory interview to being a friend of North which is probably why he is here rather than any cricketing reason.
The state of the ground and the non-existent communication with members typifies the utter contempt of management to them.

Summed up nicely. They don't give a toss and given the fact so many members donated their membership £££ to the club, it's absolutely appalling to be honest. As for Maddinson, clearly job for the boys really favour.

I've no real problem with this, networking is how the world goes round, it's just a shame North doesn't have any friends who'd actually be useful. A bat who bowls a bit of left arm filth really isn't a worthwhile addition - especially after seeing we didn't need KP in the slightest and even when we added that kiwi who scored 200+ it still didn't bring us a win

Some very fair points here.

To be honest this season is slowly going down the drain. I had hoped batting last that the 20 wickets would be in the bag by today and we could finally cincentrate on knocking off a score rather than aimlessly trying to bowl a side out without success.
There can be no doubt that any county losing five of its best players to England would clearly suffer and allowances must be made for this. However whilst I wish Maddinson the very best is he what we need right now. We cannot get near taking 20 wickets in any game and surely a quick opening bowler is what we needed, particularly as Bushnell was dropped on a pitch he may have easily got middle order runs on .
Alan Walker and Will Gidman showed last season what can be achieved with a side that can punch above its weight in the 50 over cup. This comes from confidence and belief, two attributes our team currently lacks in abundance and Im afraid , as in football, the current Coach's results,... or lack of them ... must come into focus.
