Durham v Derbyshire 11th-14th July

All out. Very strange batting tactics at the end, can't for my life understand that but bonus for Durham. Young Stanley on a hatrick spread over 3 overs

Interesting that the last hat-trick in First Class cricket was also spread across three overs.

Also, three hat-trick opportunities in the match already for Durham. When was the last time that happened…?

Just got in and got me phone charged, the bugger died at 11:10 🤦‍♂️

Fair to say it’s a new ball pitch

Observations from today:

Cracking catch from Mackintosh.

Rushy is still the best new ball bowler in county cricket

Salisbury isn’t good enough. Although I’ll love him to bits if he sees the new ball off in the morning

Stanley Mac looks a talent, very raw, a bit aerosol at times BUT I like his action and he gets a decent bit of pace sent down.

Would’ve preferred to have seen Raine share the new ball (either of them) given his style and ability to move it late and get a bit of nibble of the surface.

First hour tomorrow is important, get through that without too much damage and we should be looking at batting well into Day 3.
And you opened with a night watchman?

Not normally a fan of nightwatchmen, but don’t mind it in this instance to be fair. Think the benefit is two-fold given how much the new ball has done so far in the match.

What do you make of the Derbyshire bowling attack? Looks fairly inexperienced with the likes of Conners/Pettman/Aitchison heading the attack up but going off the stats it seems like Reece and Dal have been doing most of the damage this season anyway….?

Salisbury has to be one of the most unluckiest bowlers on the county circuit. I'd like to think he stayed as I just love his effort & attitude and I think he's a decent bowler. Was a dodgy rumour about someone signing for Derbyshire but I take such rumours with a pinch of salt a lot of the time.

Says it all that mcalindon(sp?) Was picked ahead of Salisbury today, and both ahead of Gibson, but we'll likely lose Salisbury end of the season despite him being the best of the three

I think it's a case of finance..personally.id happily give Robinson and sowter contracts but it seems like we only want to pay people who play all formats (except Clark assuming we hold onto him)

But tbf I'd keep Eck and Salisbury anarl but I doubt we will sign any, and that's purely financial imo
The dilemma with the financial situation revolves around Lees and Potts situation with regards a central ECB contract which probably won't be clarified until September. Our squad was paper thin before this and today's selection indicates to me that both Coggers and Ned will be leaving. Shorn then of 4 experienced regulars I sincerely hope that we have contingency plans in place.

Salisbury played today.... Though bizarrely wasn't listed in the original squad. Not sure what's happened with that. I'd like to think he stayed and as above I'd not be arsed with Eckersley and Coughlin both left.

Coggers was injured in warm up surely, I'm not sure his contract status but he's been a massive flop coming back, fitness and bowling (perhaps one excuses the other) his batting is ok but he'll be on decent money to be a whiteball middle order bowls a little bit type which is all he's really shown he can do (and those few overs have generally gone at 10-15)

Pretty sure he signed a 3 year deal which would mean this is his last year. I wasn't aware be was injured in the warm up which maybe explains why Salisbury is playing...

If ekersely leaves were a whiteball bat short and have no keeper beyond an 18 year old who's played 1 day of FC cricket so far. Think it leaves us very short of options. One injury and we'd have bedingham keeping stumps in cc and someone off here keeping for the 2nds

Bedingham has put down three slip catches off Salisbury alone so far this season. Don’t fancy him with the gloves. We need more than one keeper. Eckersley has played every game this season so far, even when Robinson was keeping. What does that tell you!?

I think it's fair to say we agree on this 😂
If eckersley is being allowed to leave I hope it's because we're confident of signing Robinson and prefer him.

All well and good moderate players being released but only if you're replacing them with better, either internally or externally. If the 3 mentioned are released, and Potts, Lees and Carse are likely unavailable, I doubt we'd have 11 senior players.
Just checked on the club website. It would leave us with 8 senior players with unproven Bushnell, Crawshaw, Doneathy, McAlinden, Macintosh and Gibson.
Frightening.
