Durham v Derbyshire 11th-14th July

Very well batted Trev, TSS a very good debut and Stan picking up a couple of wickets and batting well too. Great to see Rushy back to form.

Overall however, another disappointnent and its one win still.

The points about coach interaction on recent threads are very relevant and the way Will and Alan W have always interacted with members has always been to their credit.

Last year at Edbaston on the rained off afternoon day 4 there were 2 of us walking round the empty stands, both of us had Durham caps on. North and Franklin were chatting and we passed them. We had travelled 200 miles to support the team and if we hadnt asked their thoughts as to the possibility of play they would have completely ignored us, this in a 3000 seater stand with 4 of us in total in it.

Sadly this has been the norm during their time here. I dont wish to hassle coaches etc but a small recognition of our pressence would have been appreciated.

With results not going well PR is a major area and something they should both be far more aware of. Communication is key and there seems to be very little at the moment. Not good when crowds are clearly falling.

Whilst dumped into the backwaters by the ECB the 50 over cup is now a very important competition for the club and one our 2 leaders need to get right. Another failure would not be acceptable. A last chance to save a pretty depressing campaign.

You're spot on about PR, especially when things are going as bad as they are, the club should be making an effort, and they simply aren't. It doesn't sit well with me especially given members forfeited their membership fees to pay for wages of these very same people who in my opinion are incredibly ignorant. I'm not suggesting pestering them etc but they have zero interaction with members, something I've never experienced before, all very weird and when PR is poor combined with poor results, it just doesn't sit well with members who are paying good money and some whom are using a lot of annual leave/petrol to attend games. A little interaction isn't asking much and in my opinion maintains the ethos of Durham Cricket Club alive and well with good relationships between all concerned........ sadly North & Franklin have absolutely ruined that good relationship and as I keep saying, walk round the ground and ask members what they think of them, you will quickly realise where I'm coming from, which is now why I think the club are burying their heads in the sand and are too embarrassed in wanting to host any members forums which during the Lewis/Cook days (good and bad), were always done several times a season and announced well in advance. As I've said if these two are still in charge at Winter 2023 then I can't see me committing to a 5 year membership, they are ripping apart everything I feel Durham stand for as a club.

If the club made as much effort with members as they did with Diana Ross and Buble, then relationships would be so much better. This all during our 30th year is quite piss poor.

Compare that with Arthur and all his team chatting with everyone yesterday.......... (and it happens with other teams when they're up here as well, Paul Nixon for example chatting with loads of people at the T20 game etc etc....)

Everything I've heard and see points towards a finance problem.
We get told that the finances are in order and yet ..... the state of the ground and the slim squads which meant players are being brought in are short notice to fill gaps point to not enough cash is being spent. Hopefully this is a temporary situation, not much can be done this season but next season the squad size needs to be seriously looked at.

On a positive note Macintosh and McAlinden look like they have something.

Yes, only appeared in the last hour.
Doesn't appear to see or concede the mess the club is in.

How many managers/head coaches* across the sporting spectrum actually admit something like that whilst they’re in post though?

Barely any. It isn’t the done thing.

*or whatever his daft title is.

We'll they're certainly not going to admit that the club is in a mess but a little bit of honesty wouldn't go amiss especially when so many fans readily agreed to forfeit a season's membership. Why not admit that finances won't allow it if that's the case although the signing of Maddinson when clearly the need was to strengthen the bowling hardly indicates thrift.

Club need to just be open & honest (like via members forums) and you would find most members would just say "fair enough, thanks for making us aware". Sadly it's too far gone now with this lot in charge, they have alienated themselves from members despite massive goodwill from members. I can't take them seriously now, they have clearly demonstrated they don't give a toss about members and they have lost the support of the majority of regular members (again as I keep repeating, just walk round the ground, you quickly realise the general feeling). Some hard working people at the club people but those pulling the main strings have created a culture not fitting with the history/ethos of Durham Cricket Club from previous years and what I feel Durham stand for as a club for the community which I am sure was a key word when Durham Council bailed the club out......... i.e. taxpayers £££

Just got to the end of this game on catchup. Congratulations not only to Trev, but also to Marty and Dave Fletcher who kept going right to the bitter end. Great advert for Championship cricket 😂
Just realised. If we play McAlindon and Gibson, we'll have a Stan and Ollie in the team!
Well, they'd be dealing with a fine mess most of the time
