Durham v Birmingham (a) t20

Not seen a ball bowled today but we just can't get it right in T20.
We won't find out but it would be interesting to hear Campbells debrief on this campaign and how he looks to improve for next season.
Again its pretty much the same teams who have qualified for the knockout stages with Worcestershire as this years plucky 4th team.

Do I win a prize for predicting we would finish 8th in the T20 or do I have to wait to see if the FTECB dock Yorkshire an irrelevant 4- 6 points?🤔

After we won 3 of the first 4 games to match last year's number of wins with 10 still to play, I remember thinking that it would be typical Durham to go on a massive losing streak borne out of ineptitude and a catastrophic loss of confidence that got worse with every match. Then we won again to make it 4 from 6 and I put that thought down to undue pessimism

Oh dear

and yet we did several things better this year. The signing of Sowter was as inspired as it was unusual (for us at least).... a domestic player signed only for one comp, who lived somewhere else, and was left to sort out his own training in his own way. I was sceptical when I first read about it, but he was terrific... and doubtless cheaper than most overseas T20 professionals. I would try and do the same with Josh Cobb next year, personally

Turner was a decent enough signing, Parnell less so. We were heavily reliant on our top 5 for runs with no oomph lower down the order and injuries and call ups really hurt our bowling unit. I have always preferred pace off the ball unless the pace is rapid and hostile and we had none of that, so it was a surprise that we didn't bowl Turner more.

If I had to sum up the campaign in less than 20 words, I'd say we conceded too many runs in the power plays and scored too few runs at the death

Still...... there's always next year

Parnell has been very poor… just can’t build the score nor defend it. We’re not tight enough in our bowling and could benefit from an extra spinner and middle order batsman
Bitterly disappointing campaign, I’m sure we’re all very pleased to get back to the proper cricket.
T20 is proper cricket no point disowning if because we did shit.

T20 is a contrived form of cricket putting restrictions on bowlers and fielding positions to give an advantage to the batsmen. It's no longer an even contest, therefore, between bat and ball. Hence it's not regarded as 'proper' cricket.
The term is not intended to decry or disown T20 which is clearly the more popular form with the modern generation.
