Durham playing at South North

My gripe with it though is that there are plenty of grounds in the county if Durham who would love to host a county game. The home of Northumberland County Cricket Club shouldn't have that honour over them. The likes of Darlington, Hartlepool and Stockton for example.
TBF I don't think I could be chewed to get down Darlington or Stockton. Hartlepool maybe.

The article says Stoneman is from Newcastle... Errr Isn't he from Sunniside?

i am sure that when harmi was bowling no one gave a toss he was from Ashington.
What does that have to do with anything? We are playing a first class home game somewhere that isn't actually in our county, i'm suprised the ECB sanctioned it tbh.

Great for South North CC but I'm a bit sceptical of the wisdom of it. There's very little permanent seating in the ground which isn't a major problem but will need sorting, and then there's virtually no local parking at the ground itself, I wouldn't imagine the locals are happy with the prospect of having what little on road parking they have being taken over by a cricket crowd.
This. Recipe for a complete cockup. Will be if Harker has owt to do with it. Nee idea how this bloke is still at DCCC.

some of the comments on here are amazing

i am not an expert but the work that has been done at South North on the facilities has been excellent

yes Durham are the first class county but a great deal of effort was done by all in the early days such as the joint county day matches at the Callers tournament etc

It is a one day match to recognise an anniversary of a club who are doing a great deal to promote cricket

You've completely missed the point mate. Nobody is saying folk from North of the Tyne shouldn't play for/support Durham. They're saying the county shouldn't play in another county.

You wouldn't get Yorkshire playing a home game at Manchester would you......

David Harker is a f***ing wanker. Everything he touches turns to shit.

What's more, the Jesmond CricketFestival was going on long before Durham became a First Class County and had nothing to do with Durham CCC.

The sponsors Callers Pegasus did indeed put money into Durham CCC and used the popularity of the Festival as a guide that cricket in the region would be successfully followed. However the two are not the same entity.

I presume it's them trying to desperately drum up some support not only for the weirdness of that crammed 50 over competition this year but also as a promo for T20. Due to the fact the local residents around the Riverside will forever block any floodlights and the shocking public transports links to the ground, we'll always lag behind with T20 revenue. Honestly think that if they could get a T20 game into an out ground in the north east, never mind Durham, which would generate more income, they'd snap your hands off. Not saying it's right, just how it is.

But it is a complete one off - it is to recognise a 150 year anniversary. I am Durham through and through but acknowledge the amount of effort that South North has done to promote cricket at all levels - the dinner alone was attended by over 500 people - I think as a one off gesture it is not a bad thing but each to their own.

There's a lot of sense in that, first regarding the 50 over thing - it is stupid scheduling. All the games are one after another over 2/3 weeks aren't they? Basically what the T20 used to be and perhaps still should be......??

With regards to the revenue and getting fans in aspect, the club just need to be a little less thick and reduce prices. You get people in, get the house full and then make money on beer and burger sales. It's a no brainer. Unfortunately, those running the club have no brain.

Should really be playing home games in their home county.

One thing that I don't get with DCCC is their advance sales procedure. I like to get down there when I can. Most games are £15 on the day, £12 in advance with a £2 booking fee. Seems bloody pointless to me as surely people will not buy in advance as if there's no play they won't want to fuck on for a refund for the sake of saving a quid. Reduce advance sale prices by 3/4 quid, get a hundred or so more in the ground and make more than the current pricing structure.
