With Stokes set to become centrally/incremental contract, frees up his wages for the coming season, do Durham go for an overseas Batsman, Bowler, all-rounder or stick with a current player and save the money.

no question a batsman, but i wouldn't expect an overseas signing tbh. muchall seeing more use than expected, or promtion form within, rami singh or either of the two new lads, or maybe even benks returning, though i dont expect that either

Benks coming back is more likely than anybody else coming in imo.

The only way they will even think about signing an overseas pro is when Stokes actually gets awarded a central contract, so that he is officially of the books payment wise. Benks decides not to take up the last six months of his contract all Durham players are on 12 months contracts, so i would imagine Durham want to see him back within a few weeks as he is not actually playing abroard. Finally what are Englands plans for Bortwick in the summer.
If they do i would have thought it would be a last minute job before the start of the season. I think they would only bring a batsmen in.

This. The club has no money. How many more times does it have to be said!
Yeah but they keep making huge savings & freeing up £££ and still people say "oh the club have no money". Wtf has been going on?!

We have ditched some massive earners and are still being told they are skint. Wtf has been going on?! Don't those in charge of finances have some serious questions to answer.....?

David Harker?

Not looking too good to be honest,as Stokes will not play a lot, added that surely Onions will be given a chance for England after the mess of the ashes and Borthwick might also be given a chance.

Yes he does have some serious questions to answer. I'm surprised that he is still at the club tbh.[DOUBLEPOST=1388735340][/DOUBLEPOST]

We could conceivably go down. Onions would probably be the biggest loss.

reducing your overheads do not suddenly mean you have loads of money, it just gives you the opportunity to hopefully make money in the season ahead.

We've built a Test Match ground from scratch in 15 years which is a massive financial commitment which largely explains the shortage of funds. Harker didn't help of course by wasting player's funds by giving the likes of Harmison, Blackwell and Plunkett lucrative long term contracts.

blackwell i disagree with, giving him a new contract made sense. as for harmison & plunkett.. well you'd imagine he wouldn't just hand out contracts without asking geoff whether they were worth keeping. a case of sentimentality i think
