Durham over 50’s games

I play with one of them, he captained us yesterday, headed off early after the game so he could get some kip before setting off at 5.30am for a coach trip down to West Country. I wish many at my club had a fraction of his levels of commitment (or insanity 😁).

Just saw that this was going on today and recognised a few names from around the local leagues over the years. Nice to see them still competing at a high level.

Steve Chapman was part of the England squad that won the over 50’s World Cup in South Africa last year (or was it the year afore?). Canny gig that like

I see they’re at home (Willington) to Cambridgeshire tomorrow too, starting at 13:00.

It’s actually the over 60’s at Willington tomorrow, I’m told they field with shin pads on to minimise the need to bend to stop a ball, genius! I bet it’s a good watch, I’d have gone but I’m on my hols.

I played with a bloke in Langbaurgh league who did that a few years back, he ended up getting pinned on the knee instead and had to retire as a result.

Archie is a civil servant (or at least he was) and used to play at Shotley Bridge.

Don’t understand the ‘Head of Academy Recruitment’ connection
He definitely scouted for SAFC for a few years, not seen him for a while though so not sure on his current role.

Chappy now plays at Bishop Auckland, coaches a lot down there. He was in Aus for a long time and he used to sort out the lads coming over to Bishop (and vice versa).

Not played any games with him as stopped playing about 10 years ago myself, but nice bloke and still a decent player. He's doing a great job with my nephew who has only just started playing this year (at age 10 has already played for U18s) and got his first 'retirement' in U13 cricket of 30*

He used to be a Liverpool fan and travelled to watch them when he wasn’t playing football or cricket (goalie or w/k)

Chappy still performing for BA 1s in the NYSD, pretty sure he was in the Eng over 50s team that won the world cup.

Can't believe Calvins ankles/knees still hold up the amount of overs he's bowled over the years.
