Durham Members Forum 13th October

I wonder if we will ever return to the days of members being allowed to physically attend these meetings?🤔
I've never attended a "normal" forum, couldn't be bothered to hang around after a game. Zoomed in the recent meetings, sent in questions and had them answered. Marty is good at keeping the dialogue going and partaking from the comfort of your own home and at a more sociable time I find more convenient. I suspect that the occasional bullet is dodged, however, by not presenting awkward questions.
I'd encourage members to participate both by zooming in and forwarding questions.

Borthwick says it's been a decent year. Glad to be back and looking forward to getting started next summer.
Borthwick praising the bowlers
1st game of season was a very hard selection bowling wise
Borthwick praising Trevaskis
Borthwick pleased with how many overs he got in and went from strength to strength
"wasn't my best year" with the bat
Borthwick said players didn't really know the points system in the county championship
Franklin says progressive season
Emergence of young players on one day cup pleasing.
Franklin said one day cup campaign was great for experience
Franklin believes we can push on next season in red ball
Marcus North very pleased how we've gone this year
Overall a great season - North.
Bancroft - didn't work for him this year according to North. Bedingham exceptional season and happy to secure plays as an overseas player on an ancestral passport. We won't be going back for Cameron Bancroft. Looking at other options
Steel, Burnham released (performances didn't kick on despite talent). Poynter won't be renewed for next season. Jones now full contracted.
Bushnell now got a rookie contract along with Crawshaw.
North says we have some exciting young talent
Tom Mackintosh can play wicketkeeper hence Poynter released
Franklin says the 100 can only be a good thing, likewise Marcus North says that also.
North "100 was fantastic"
1.3m a year or 5 years we get out of the 100 according to bostock
Durham own a 19th of the 100. Current media deal is 1.3 billion. 100 was more successful that Bostock thought given the lack of overseas quality due to Covid. He believes it will get better next season and drive up massive value. Said the T20 can't be played over 30 days with 18 teams hence big players won't commit. T20 to be played first and done before the 100 next season. 2 wildcard picks for 100 next season. All chairman have had a voting slip relating to bed ball schedule
11 to 7 voted to remain conference format which isn't enough to push it through, so not ruling out going back to two divisions. Bostock said "Surrey just didn't want to play"
Two division format not ruled out for next season.
Bostock says he fully expects a radical overhaul of domestic structure.
Red ball not to be played during 100. Appears decision tomorrow
Bostock fundamentally disagrees with Marty Emmerson   in relation to 2 divisions. Bostock said "complete rubbish". Getting a bit tetchy this
Agents putting stipulations into contracts about "if you drop into division 2, you can leave". Bostock says we are two years ahead of where he thought we would be.

Bostock has properly slapped Emmerson down

Bostock says 3x 6s in the blast would be better format and mix it up and not regionalize it
Bostock massively against going back to two divisions in red ball.
Emmerson suggests chairmen need to be more open.
Bostock says reduce blast 14 to 10. He suggests he would get more crowds in watching 5 home blast games than 7 blast home games. He fears the worst though.... Decision on county championship is tomorrow.
Bostock fears it will go back to two divisions tomorrow as the vote won't get the 2/3s needed and it will be 11-7
2022 fixtures due out November.
Bostock said point system for the format of red ball this season was a mistake and it would be an easy fix if it goes ahead next season
Bostock and Emmerson not seeing eye to eye here
Franklin enjoyed the red ball format and it's schedule.
Marcus North is pro the current format
Surrey - Durham put in a strong complaint in. ECB currently investigating. Bostock says it's everything to do with integrity and said he believes Surrey just didn't want to play and 1 case shouldn't cancel game. Bostock said he found it odd all Surrey players were available next game and that he just didn't believe Surrey which he's made Surrey aware of. ECB still investigating and Bostock rightly points out no games cancelled in the 100 despite cases. Bostock says any team unable to fulfill a game should get 0 points. Bostock says Surrey didn't want to come up and play, very very disappointing from a professional team

Vision and plan for ground. Last 3 years has rebuilt a lot of confidence with stakeholders such as council and the ECB. Business case stacks up to diversify income outside cricket. Hotel seems confident due to lack of hotels in Durham. Sporting Hub creation at Riverside planned. Indoor school and nursery. Sounds promising. Hotel business case and staycation due to Covid strengthens that case and business plan for Visit Durham to have more hotels
Plans going ahead at pace. Meeting with MP tomorrow. Meeting with council over finances next week. Positive signs.

Never mind getting 0 pts for a cancelled game it should be minus 48 pts.Similar to local footy teams losing 6 pts etc

North East stand a desire to get rid of. Bostock said it's an eyesore and needs to come down. Funding plans in place but hotel is the main priority. ECB said they will cashflow for pavillion and confident Durham have a good business case and stability
Next 5 years exciting and Bostock very positive
Marcus North acknowledges retail shortages especially one day shirts

Which MP ?🤔

Seem keen to have Durham part of the festival at Scarborough
Concert klaxxon
Marcus North said Scarborough was a great experience and players enjoyed it
That's your lot.

Thanks folks. I get the impression the powers to be are happy with current situation especially as stakeholders seem more confident with the business and business plan. That to me was the most positive thing taken from the night, as previously there wasn't any confidence in the business plan/business and we all know what happened.

See how it all goes but I'm positive about things on and off the field.
