That time again when the club announce who is leaving at the end of the season.
There may be some we are not aware of yet but the one's we do know so far are...

Coughlin to Lancashire
Killen to Essex
McAlindon released

Although not confirmed there is a strong rumour de Leede is going to Gloucestershire .

No doubt there will be one or two more we haven't heard about yet.

The key question is are replacements Bailey, Aldridge and Connors better players?
Statistics don't indicate so but time will tell.
If there is confidence in Bailey why wasn't he selected in the 2 final games!

The treatment of De Leede has been odd, but then I’m sure I read somewhere earlier this year that he wasn’t that bothered about playing red ball…? Which is a shame if true because he was always very handy for us.

Prior to the current lads who are leaving I question the departures of Ross Whitfield who was playing in the U,/19! World Cup one year and for Burnopfield the next. Also Johnny Bushnell who played for Gloucestershire Seconds last season with relative success..I'm not suggesting that they are the finished article but surely worth another year at their age.

It’s seems to happen a fair bit at Durham it seems, young lads go from flying to cast aside in no time. There was the lad the other year Luke someone (can’t think of his surname) who was playing regular in white ball think he might have had a couple of red ball games then just disappeared off the face of the earth. Similar with Crawshaw the other year too. I appreciate it could be that they just maybe aren’t good enough, but it seems that even some that may be good enough are getting the bullet too.

I saw Whitfield a few times in 2023 and 2024 playing for the 2nds and have to say was never impressed with his batting or his fielding but he does seem to have been scoring a few runs for Northumberland this year playing in the same team as Bushnell, Crawshaw and Sol Bell.

Could be that the youngsters themselves have lost their appetite for cricket as a full time career. Get to 21 or 22 year old and haven't established themselves maybe they look at the money available in the NEPL for 1 day at week and chose to qualify for a career outside cricket whilst having the above earner to fall back on.
Whitfield,as you say, didn't look fully committed in his latter time at Durham.

My son's best mate was on the Pathway until about 18 then wasn't taken on by the Academy..Played for cash in the NEPL ,NTCL.and finally unpaid with his mates at a much lower standard.Hasn't played the last 2 years and shows zero interest in any aspect of cricket

Luke Doneathy played in the 2021 final v Glamorgan at Trent Bridge and released at the end of the 2023 session.Currently playing for Stocksfield in NTCL, his junior club .
.Not sure if Pro or not

Played with him and Jonny Bushnell for the DCB U15's.

I'm astonished that both of them plus Sol Bell were released for Durham after so few games. The time and effort that the DCB put in with the three of them from being younger was immense and it seemed to me like a complete waste of talent to let them go after so few games.

Also played alongside Mitchell Killeen when he was very young (so was I like) at Annfield Plain. Cracking lad and best of luck to him at Essex, where I think Luc Benkenstein is at.

I was mates with Luc when he was very young as my dad knew Benks and Di Venuto well when they were here.

You'll have played junior cricket with Seb Hughes -Pinan who seems to left the Academy system to go to Uni 🤔 Was your dad a cricketer 🤔
