A team made up of players from the Sunderland senior squad beat a team made up of players from the Newcastle senior squad. Of course it counts.
.
Guess you haven't read the sky sports report then? A strong team from Sunderland v Academy players from the mags*.

*While others 'also featured'.

It does according to the Daily Mail

Newcastle suffer Wear-Tyne humiliation as Sunderland hit local rivals for six in friendly
  • Sunderland welcomed Newcastle to the Stadium of Light in secret friendly
  • The hosts romped to a 6-0 victory – their seventh in a row over local rivals
  • Duncan Watmore scored a hat-trick with Steven Fletcher grabbing a brace
The first decent thing they've ever printed!

Definitely counts

Their team and playing staff will be fuming, no doubt about it
Have you read the comments in the Mail article? They're not bothered though!

I was on late shift last night so I didn't know the result till I clicked on the link and all I can say is....bloody hell!! That is the last thing I expected. Mixed feeling about the validity of the game. Does it matter as much because it is a friendly? Still a magnificent result though.

What do we know about our team? I know the following played: Watmore, N'Doye, Hirchoff, Fletcher, Rodwell.

Still a bit up the Mags arse SKY though - 'strong' us 'academy' them. And in March we will bid to make it 7... not 8!

This should be posted at every opportunity - 7 out of the 18 from last weekend played for BOTH teams, we had 1 starter from last weekend, they had 2. If it was a stronger line up for us it is because we are a stronger squad. End of.
