A team made up of players from the Sunderland senior squad beat a team made up of players from the Newcastle senior squad. Of course it counts.

However, if we had drew or lost it would've meant fuck all.

This friendly is without question one of the stupidest f***ing ideas the club has ever had.

No one would care much about the result if it was against any other team. But picking Sunderland just adds way too much importance to it, damages the confidence of the players further, embeds the awful mindset we've had in derbies, pisses the Newcastle fans off and gives more confidence to the fans and players of one of our relegation rivals.

Whoever came up with this idea is beyond moronic. If it was any other team, most people probably wouldn't have even known about the result, but as it's sunderland, it's going to spread through the North East like wildfire. I've already seen the news articles from the likes of The Sun spreading over the net about it.

When a meaningless reserve match produces national media articles like this:

You have to say it was a pretty stupid idea from a morale and PR point of view.

I'm personally not so bothered about the result itself, as it is just a friendly, but I do care about the problems it causes. I cannot think of anything more dumb than hosting a friendly with our main rivals, as it was nailed on that the result and importance would be completely blown out of proportion.

With fragile confidence and angry supporters, Sunderland is literally the last team we should have even considered in a friendly. I cannot comprehend why we chose them when there were many other teams we could have played where no one would even blink twice at the result.

This Goat fella is losing it :lol:

so much for fielding a reserve team huh?

In today's friendly, it appears both and fielded seven players from their respective 18-man Prem squads from last weekend.

Or not just wanted to know before I got a new t shirt printed
@draper any ideas mate
It does according to the Daily Mail :lol:

Newcastle suffer Wear-Tyne humiliation as Sunderland hit local rivals for six in friendly
  • Sunderland welcomed Newcastle to the Stadium of Light in secret friendly
  • The hosts romped to a 6-0 victory – their seventh in a row over local rivals
  • Duncan Watmore scored a hat-trick with Steven Fletcher grabbing a brace

Of course it does. If they had opened the game up to the public to attend then it would have been quite heated like any other derby. Wouldn't have sold out or anything but would probably have attracted a few thousand and created a bit of abuse going both ways on twitter/facebook etc.
