I don’t, but only because I never have and can’t get used to it, and the level I play it really isn’t needed. I’m all for it, and wouldn’t not wear one at short leg or if I was WK up at the stumps, just can’t seem to get on with them while batting.

Every time. Don’t think I’ve ever been actually hit in the head by a bowler before but I’m too paranoid about top edging one into my mush to not wear one.
 
No I'm usually not out there long.

Usually score 1-8 off about 1-6 deliveries.

I don't think I've ever played a shot that would cause a top edge. I've got almost zero legside ability.

Spent most of my life batting with no helmet until my mid 40s when I caught a pearl of a bouncer straight in the mush. Minus 4 teeth and some very expensive dentistry bills. Her indoors gave me an ultimatum either give the game up or get a helmet, so I bought a helmet but (stupidly) never bothered to wear it as she never watched me play so wouldn’t know any different :lol:

Following season caught another on my noggin and had to play the ‘was fielding at short leg’ card. Decided I’d better wear it after that. Was never entirely comfortable with it but you definitely do get used to it. Being a sweaty ******* mine was always minging after any decent knock though :mad:
 
Nope. Don’t play at a standard that it is overly necessary. I’ve also got a big head so it’s much easier without one! I’d be lying if I said I went quite a long time without wearing a man’s very important piece of protection. The missus sharp insisted that changed though.
 
I stopped playing in 1999 and I never wore a helmet. I was an opening bat so faced a few lads who could bowl. I was only hit twice, on the heart, in 2 consecutive balls from the opposition pro. He never said a word just walked up to me and picked the ball up. He did not say a word and just stared at me. Only time I was a bit nervous. I could take the bowlers who had a lot to say and never answered them. I always thought that I was getting at them when they were chatting but the quiet ones got to me. So did the bruise - it was a beauty!

Yes, always wear one whilst batting.

I’m sort of the opposite to you in that regard because I don’t like wearing them to keep wicket.

For me a lot of the influence on my choices came from junior cricket, I was at under 13 level when helmets became compulsory for anyone under 18 whilst either batting or standing up whilst keeping wicket.

There was an exception though which I always found really odd - I might just be imagining this like given it’s a while ago, but I’m sure the crack at the time* was that any junior who didn’t want to wear a helmet could be excused from doing so if they had a letter from a county player/coach saying they didn’t have to.

*could just have been schoolboy rumours :lol:
 
Aye. Mainly because of the pitch quality. Don’t trust it

Indoor nets where there’s no bounce I don’t bother.

I do think it’s effects me as even with the light shrey lid I still feel uncomfortable and I’m aware of it.

No i seem to remember hearing that too, i think i just missed compulsory batting helmets in Junior Cricket though, 1999ish?? although only ever got hit in the face keeping wicket, had one bobble in front of my hands and pop up, then i skier a took just under my chin that bounced out my hands into my front tooth

unsure when the rules came in for keepers to wear them in Junior cricket though
