I think you mean Chopin's Funeral March. The Imperial March was based on that I think.

The best jazz players all do this, with little snatches of stuff worked into the improvisation and then taken somewhere else. I saw Josh Smith recently, and his solos had bits of hymns, nursery rhymes, classical works, TV themes and all sorts.
