Disneyland Paris…

Been back a week now

Thoughts: Parks look tired to me though there is a fair bit of work going on.

Really enjoyed the Avengers Assemble ride . Hollywood House of Terror was decent

Spiderman ride was very disappointing

Grandkids enjoyed it though which is the main thing

Food prices were ok (surprisingly)

Wife (no) enjoyed the Disney Village

Did you eat at Downtown?

Loved that restaurant when we were there in the summer, booked it twice for our visit next year.

Americans don’t bother me. Never met a bad one yet.

I don't recall ever having a bad interaction with an American in America.

The west coast was something else last year like. I did get asked if I knew the MacDougall's (all of them, I presume) in a Starbucks in San Francisco which I thought was something comedians made up.

Fancying it in April next year with the bairn and wife (no)..should we stay onsite or off-site. The shared shuttle bus from the recommended off-site hotels sounds like it'll be busy. Would probs go for hotel Cheyenne if onsite as bairn loves toy story

We’re staying off in castle one. Seems it’s like 25/30 mins walk. So will do that to clear cobwebs.

On site, went with a 6 year old to Santa Fe and the walk was acceptable, shuttle bussed it once, it was quicker to walk.

Oh and consider May half term, France doesn’t do that one, unless you aren’t tied to schools.

I’ve been 3 times now. Stayed off site, at Newport bay and the Disney land hotel. Honestly you get what you pay for. The offsite hotel was fine. But the shuttle bus is carnage, especially if you want to go back at busy times like after the fireworks. There is no queuing system, so you have to be prepared to pick the kids up and force your way on. We did the walk back once, it’s further than you think.

We did one night in hotel cayenne before moving to Newport Bay. Honestly I preferred Cayenne. It’s not much further to walk, and it’s not as big. I wouldn’t stay in Newport bay again. It is still quite a hike, and security to get into the Disney bubble took forever. We did the move because we got our park tickets with the hotel booking. Which means you get the days either side of the stay as tickets. But since we weren’t getting there until about 3pm it made sense to have a cheap night somewhere else, walk around the Disney village, then move early the next morning to get the full use of the park tickets.

The Disney hotel was another level. We ended up staying there for 1 less night because we could fit in so much more with it being so close to the parks. Since you are already inside the bubble there is no security scans to queue for and you could book the royal encounters for free with loads of availability. My daughter so all the princess, some multiple times, so we didn’t have to waste park time on them.

Still need a Xmas day food thing as missed out on choice number one. Think my suggestion of f&c from
Toad hall have going down well

Are you saying that as you were in Newport you didn't go through security? Both our stays at a Disney Hotel have required use to go through security (metal detector, bag check), even those coming from the Marvel Hotel were subject to the same checks (Marvel is the same 4star rating as Newport but I would argue since the rebrand it's a better hotel than Newport, listed higher on Disney's site too)

or are you comparing it to those with just park tickets? never gone that route so can't comment.

No. If you stay in the Disney Land Hotel you don’t have to. They have security scanners on the doors of that hotel so anything in the bubble is scanned. But that’s it, once your in the hotel no more security scan.

Newport bay, Cheyenne etc you do the security scans as your approaching the Disney village but.

You do security scanning when you first arrive, before you bring your bags in / or have them held by the baggage folks.
And you go through a checkpoint just for hotel guests between the hotel and the village each time - there's barely a queue though, so its dead easy.

We've stayed at all 3 of the hotels on that Lake. Honestly, pick the cheapest, they're all just as nice as eachother just with different themes. New York is much closer, so I'd pick that if everything else was equal.

Our bags went straight from the car to the hotel room, car park attended did look in the boot but I figured that was more for smuggling people in that security, what could they see looking at closed cases.

I did see the airport style luggage scanners but they were only used by people getting off coaches.

A word of caution - if you stay off site the day before and you've prepared properly by buying your drink dirt cheap at the supermarche you'll not get through the checkpoint to get into Disney village if you're coming through the train station to get to your hotel. You'll have to get on the Disney bus.

Stay on

You can walk in
The tickets are cheaper as a package
There’s character meets in the hotels which the kids love
It’s worth it

Stayed at Sequoia Lodge a few years back and we were two doors down from the meet and greet spot. Out the door in the morning straight into it before breakfast. Sets the kids up brilliantly.

We got unlucky in Newport Bay. We were the second last room from the end. You don't realise how big that hotel is until you've dragged your suitcases that far.

Not only that, but the design of the lifts is stupid. Everyone goes in from the car park level. But the restaurants and exit to go towards the parks is the next level down. That's fine, until you have a pushchair, and realise there is only 1 small lift between those two floors. The queue for that lift isn't short.

I also found the queues on a morning to get through security for magic hours was long, that is the same regardless of which disney hotel (excluding disneyland hotel obviously). If you go in other times the queue is gone.

We were only there for 2 nights, so it wasn't that bad. We paid for half board meal plan and maximised it for character dining.

Our holiday itinerary from Sept, feel free to pinch some ideas.
night 1 - ferry - Newcastle to Amsterdam (Hull- Rotterdam is another option but was more expensive this time. It was cheaper last time)
day 1 - drive to Paris, stopping at a mcdonalds just south of lille for lunch and to charge the car. Get to Campanile Val De France, drop bags and get the bus to Disney, do a bit shopping, and get some food at the rainforest cafe
night 2 - stay at Campanile Val De France - cheapest hotel we could find locally.
day 2 - drive to disneyland hotel, checkin is after 2pm, but park tickets are valid from that morning, so leave stuff in the car, and go to the Disney Land Park. This is why we stayed off site to start with. Had we stayed in the Disney hotel the first night our park tickets would have been valid while we spent a good chunk of the day travelling. Come back out for character dining at La Table de Lumière with princess character dining about 6. Go back to the park for the fireworks. Since it's so close we could pop backwards and forwards very easily. We even called out to do a couple of royal encounters with some princesses
night 3 - stay at disneyland hotel
day 3 - studios park, coming back for character dining for tea at the royal banquet for mickey mouse etc calling in for more princess meets before and after.
night 4 - stay at disneyland hotel, daughter went to bed, so we took turns popping to either thrill rides or shops before parks close. Very quiet as everyone getting their spaces for fireworks
day 4 - fill in whatever we missed or wanted to redo at the parks, mostly Disney Land. Get on the road about lunch time to drive to Beekse Bergen in the netherlands
Night 5 - Beekse Bergen safari hotel, we got there just about in time to see the Giraffes etc outside our hotel room. Get a pizza delivered and have some chill out beers on the balcony to chill after a busy 3 days
day 5 - swimming then drive safari followed by a nice meal
Night 6 - Beekse Bergen again.
day 6 - spend most of the day in the main zoo, before getting in the car to drive back to the ferry
Night 7 - ferry back

From living up in the North East having done flights and ferry I would pick the ferry every time. Having the car and space for bringing stuff back, plus taking a child through security when they are strapped into a car seat is far less stressful. Just my opinion and what I have found works well for us.

Pretty much exactly what I had in sequoia this year

Was absolutely brilliant for the bairn and gotta admit I enjoy it 20 times more than I thought I would

We got lucky with both our stays, in Santa Fe we were on the end close to Sequioa so it was a quick nip through that hotels ground and we were at the lake, for Sequioa we had essentially the same journey but starting closer.

I agree about taking the car, we were considering flying next year but luggage limits make the car a better choice, we use the tunnel, stay at Folkestone before, up early, drive to to DLP. Pretty much the same for return, but normally leave on the Friday AM, not doing that next year, got a late crossing booked, won’t need to leave till about 5pm.

Looking forward to seeing the new Frozen area.
