Disallowed goal...

The point everyone seems to be missing here is what they played back to the ref.
He was just watching the bit where Nordi cleaned the goalie out over n over. If he was shown it was momentum after playing the ball he wouldnt have disallowed that
I have yet to see a ref go to the screen and not accept the implied recommendation of the VAR crew.

Agreed. They need to scrap this “clear and obvious error” bollocks. And make it a tool the ref can use when they need it.
“On-field decision is a goal but I didn’t get a good look at it, can you check for offside and check if there are any reasons I can’t award the goal?”

Make it more engaging for the fans in the ground by showing the replays to the ref using the big screens so the fans can see it too, and then play the conversation between the ref and the VAR on the tannoy system.

So the ref then gets the replay straight away on the screen and the fans can hear him chat with the VAR about whether or not they think the keeper was impeded.

So basically likely rugby union.

That’s not being consistent though. They were two very different incidents. There were two phases of play for the disallowed goal. 1. Nordi wins the ball 2.Ballards header.

If the goal came directly from Mukiele then I wouldn’t argue it shouldn’t be disallowed. But as the ball goes to Ballard, the keeper try’s to set himself and can’t as his right leg is taken away. The keeper is impeded when the shot comes in.

In the Alderete incident, if the ball dropped immediately back to Alderete and he was in an otherwise good shooting position but then couldn’t shoot because of the contact, then the there may be an argument for a penalty. But that’s not what happened. They won and cleared the ball, and Alderete being trodden on was inconsequential in that one phase of play.
I think the disallowed goal was a poor decision but this 'if that's a foul then so is the other one' is the dumbest sh*t I hear people coming out with in modern football.

They do but very rarely. I think there was an Asian ref who rightly stuck to his guns in a game fairly recently.

He’s Zimbabwean, Didn’t give Man City a penalty on his first Premier League game, being the first ref to do it.

Has only done 3 Premier League matches after this all season, had a game took off him the week after, with Pep ranting in the press about the the non-penalty even though it was widely agreed it should never have been a penalty.

Would have made very little difference of course, but makes a mockery of clear and obvious. They spent 3-4 minutes and even when the ref went over to the monitor he took some convincing, but bottled going against the voice in his ear.

VAR should not be searching for opportunities to disallow goals,
not one Forrest player including the keeper appealed for it. Ref was shite all night, for both teams as well.
Exactly, after all the game is about goals. Without them no one would go to watch the knars

I knew he wasn't one of the same old shite refs you see every week like Gillet or Atwell. He had an excellent game and made the correct call.

I said on Friday that the ref took ages at the screen and was obviously thinking about sticking with his decision. He then thought, I'll probably get dogs abuse off Howard Webb, dropped for games and lose cash, bottled it.

Absolute joke he hasn't had more games.

Interesting that there was ref cam footage of the Everton Liverpool game where there was potential interference on the keeper for a goal.

Refs words were on field goal as natural coming together

They aren’t exactly the same situation but I thought that summed up the position really well with mukilele.

Pickford made a save at West Ham (just watched on MotD) and caught the forward very heavily in his follow through. VAR check, no foul 😂
Yeah, the ball was still in play when Pickford cleaned him out as well. Massive inconsistency here. If Ballard's goal shouldnt have stood then that should have been a penalty. West Ham scored from the corner, I suspect if they didnt alot more would have been made of it.

They just aren't fouls. Certainly not clear and obvious ones that VAR should have a say in.

As previously said, 'it's just a coming together' gets trotted out all the time. If it had been a forward or a defender in a similar situation it would never have been given a foul.

It’s not a natural coming together he lifts his legs up to trip the keeper ffs his legs are about half a meter off the deck

I’ve only once seen a ref sticking to his onfield decision and that was Michael Oliver. The rest of them are gutless. The minute a ref is told to go to review you know what the outcome will be.
