dirty green mags

you cant deny that the op is trying to compare what sunderland are currently doing to what newcastle did in the 90's. He's trying to suggest that the signings made are making us shite ourselves and make us green with envy. Believe me they are not, yes wickham may be an exciting prospect but there is nothing else so far to suggest the expected world domination of the op.

Fair enough the players i mentioned are from the keegan era but the op compared this to then hence why i used this example. I could have compared to cabaye, ba and marveaux to wickham, larrsson and dong and presented a good case but thats probably been done to death on here.

its easy enough to call us deluded as people do on here so people cant complain if i do when people are prematurely claiming your signings are world beaters.

i tip my hat to a very good come back sir :-D

Using ludicrous exaggerration destroys your argument.

Fair points made, but many of you are deluded, (mates of mine included). I hope in a few years you won't be calling us the same.

A mag at work yesterday actually came up to me and congatulated me on our recent signings and said we'd done some very business while making vast improvements to our already decent squad.

I rubbed my eyes in amazement

i agree, the " delusional" aspect came from the propoganda spun by john hall and his geordie nation, man u rivals now spin. Delusional ? yes, did it put bums on seats, seduce sky, spread the global image ? definately.

I was a teenager at the time and bought into it, as you would when your beating man u 5-0 and the barcelonas of the world.

My point is the delusional aspect of the mags was fairly justifiable even though it seems ridiculous 15 years on. I can see clearly though that people on here are getting somewhat carried away by your signings so far.

im not calling anyone deluded, far from it.

Im simply stating thats these signings are heading people in the delusional direction.

Most my Mag mates are very quiet on the transfer front apart from being convinced that N'Zogbia is gan back there

People are just very pleased that we're signing quality young players and building a team for a 5th successive season in the Premier League ..... I think it's you that's getting carried away ;)

to be honest im probably the same, not convinced by n'zog though. Apart from Ba iv never seen the others play so cant pass any real coment until iv seen them with my own eyes. They get canny reviews but i'll believe it once iv witnessed it mesel.

believe you me riv, i stopped getting carried away about 6/7 years away.

To answer your earlier question, thats what makes me so mad :-(;)

As an aside, I'd say that Newcastle's recruitment policy is quite sound. Yes, I'm happy with what Sunderland have done so far (it's difficult for me to judge though as I didn't see a single game last season so have no idea how much we need players in certain areas), but the French market has been undervalued for years. I do think they have got some good players in who, long term will benefit their club. I don't, however, think they'll have an immediate impact and be able to replace the Barton's/Nolan's/Carrol's of their team. I think they'll struggle next year, but the year after be back to where they are now.

How come you can't judge As you didn't see a single one of our games, yet be so positive about NUFCs signings?

I mean in principle. I can't be certain about any of the players, I don't know what we or they need because I haven't seen a Sunderland or Newcastle game for more than a season. But, I do know that the French market has seemed undervalued, so, in principle, it seems a sound proposition. Having said that, part of it is cutting their cloth to suit. There's a reason why they got nowhere near 'hijacking' the Wickham deal, despite what the Tyneside based media want you to believe.

I get you.
But I do wonder if the French have had their day. If Pardew has a cupboard he can lock them in like Wenger when they're naughty, he may have some joy, but Newcastle seem to replacing their 'nastiness' and strength with young kids and might just get bullied this season.

Their nastiness was why they pasted us last season, fortunately for us they've got rid of some of them and replaced them with french players who may or may not work out. Risky move like.
