Diarra out till December

I honestly dont think Rigg will be the one coming in with the next 2 being away games. We are likely to be defending a lot more and I think Reg will go for work rate and put Enzo in the middle with Adingra on the wing.

Either that or go 5 at the back and play 2 up top with Xhaka, Sadiki and Le Fee our midfield 3.

I think he trusts Rigg to understand the system tbh.

RLB played him as the second player pressing in the front line a lot last season, which is a difficult job to do when you're in a midfield 3.

If we're looking for solidity, Le Fee on the left and Rigg in the middle probably provides it. Adingra is more of a wildcard on the left wing

Agree with this. I think they really trust Rigg. If we stay with the normal formation then imo Rigg should start

I wonder if we could try and block an AFCON call up if they pick him and he’s still not fit by the end of the year. It’s a World Cup year so it’s not as if he wouldn’t get the chance to play in a tournament this season.
That’d go down well with Diarra I’m sure. I know most of us in this country aren’t arsed about AFCON but it’s a big deal to the players. If he’s half fit he will go. Just like if England had a half fit key player then we would take him hoping that’s he fit for the latter stages.

Gutted about this one.

Surely just start the same way as last game? We looked quite strong attacking until Reinildo had a brain fart imo.

None of this 5 at the back nonsense, it might have worked last game with 10 men but Aston Villa are out of form and can't hit a barn door lately. I'd be ugly playing like that against the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

We have a moral obligation to release him for international duty, I'd be disappointed with the club if they put any pressure on a player not to represent their country. They knew AFCON was happening when they signed all these players.

Geertruida into DM, push Sadiki further up to replace Diarra, leave Xhaka where he is.
Job done
Its early days but you can see that Diarra is a threat further up the pitch....i havnt seen that with Sidiki so would use Rigg or Dan Neil ahead of him in an advanced position. Would also use Enzo central and have Rigg , Talbi, Traore and Adinga out wide

Hopefully the net effect of this is only a couple of weeks - ie we lose him now but don't lose him for AFCON - though this injury will probably Keep him out longer than AFCON would have.
