His future after recent "press reports". In other words the press have read it on here, printed it and the club have decided they need to issue a statement.

The same press who said the game was in doubt yesterday

So the press are now using us as their source?! Surely we should be getting money for the information!!

Mind it's another example of those within the club not singing from the same hymn sheet! It's quite embarrassing at times how little the press officer at Dirha actually knows (or doesn't know, as the case may be)!

Agree with that a bit, they are very hard to get information out of, but it's handy knowing certain people.

One thing that's been dissapointing this season is the score keeping, a few times what they have announced/put on the scoreboard has turned out to be incorrect. They have off 131/8 for Lancs today and at no point during our innings did they mention any chance to that score. A few people were puzzled when the idiot (justin lockwood) said we needed something like 18 off the last 2 overs, was very puzzled.

Near the end of their innings there was confusion over whether a ball went for 2 or 4. The commentators said it was a 2 too but obv not.

Its amazing how out of touch the press/media are about what goes on at the cricket club. They seem to know very little. If youre a regular attendee at the ground you always find out the inside track although admittedly some of it is bollocks.

However in amongst the bollocks is the truth. The players are usually pretty up front with you if you ask them though.

I'll be very interested to read what the club puts out this week about Michael. We might get a taste of what it is tomorrow if he isnt named in the squad for Worcester.

Even if the lad hangs on until the end of the season it'll be really sad too see him go. I never tire of telling people what a cracking lad he is.

He will be missed.

I think Wellock ran a story last week that he was out for the season (due to injury). So in that respect I'd doubt he'll be in the squad for tomorrow. Furthermore would Durham even see it as a good business move to keep him for next season, seeing though he's getting on and picking up injuries?

I love MDV but maybe now is the time for him to wrap in and for us to start looking for his replacement.

On the plus side, his last appearance in Durham colours was at Brandon. Which must have been pleasant for him! :-D

This.

I'll wrap up his last 2 county season shirts, never part with them.

confirmed

all the best Michael, thanks for your kind gestures over the past few seasons. Top man

IF true. Was absolutely gutted when I heard this after the game yesterday.

He's a top pro is MDV and I hope he stays on. On a personal note he's been very kind to me and my partner, along with a friend and his son that go to the cricket. Always approachable and friendly.

He'll be a big miss.

Might have to try and nab his county shirt for the 3rd season running :)

Couldn't agree with you more. Brilliant player and brilliant human being. No ego at all like most of the stars of today. Top fella

Got treated disgracefully by Derbyshire who thought he wasn't up to it anymore (really worked out well that did) You were lucky to get him, we shouldn't have let him go. It still riles me to this day what happened but I cant help but be happy that he finally won some silverware with Durham after years of carrying a mediocre Derbyshire team who then shoved out the door without even a thanks.

I remember the saying 'where there is Divenuto there is hope' on the forum I posted at and how true it was

I wish him nothing but the best

Got home and read the formal announcement of his retirement.

Gutted.

As said above Michael is not on a fine cricketer but he is a fine bloke who has personally been very kind to myself and my son. He will be greatly missed.

I was privileged enough too see his double hundreds against notts and sussex and my little lad was only 7. Bairns normally have very poor powers of concentration at that age but he sat spell bound as the ball was cracked to the boundary - regularly. He became my little lads cricketing hero and he now opens the bat for his U11 team, very successfully so far.

I wish the bloke all the best and hope that his coaching career at Tasmania emulates his achievements on the field.

This day had to come but it feels like the end of an era. durham wont quite be the same without him.

Fair to say I won't be parting with these.

My lad has two of michaels' tops; one is framed and on his wall. the other one he will be wearing to the matches when he gets older.

Got a couple of texts from the man himself tonight. Looks like I might get too see him before he goes back to Tasmania which will be nice.

The bairn was playing Under 11 cricket at Marsden today and had a surprise guest come over too see him play - MDV.

We've got to know him quite well over the last 3 years and the bairn wanted too see him one more time before he goes back to Oz.

Magnificent gesture by Michael. He signed autographs and had pictures taken with some of the lads. He also left a bag full of signed shirts for raffles.

top bloke.
