Mad that people are blaming Cirkin for being out of position for the Leeds goal. Do people not understand how football works? Just because he's a left back and the goal comes from a cross from that side it doesn't necessarily mean he's therefore out of position! If that was the case you'd struggle to score goals as everyone would never move from their set positions! You need players to move and exchange positions to create space, overlaps and outnumber opponents in areas. You can clearly see he's the most advanced player closing their keeper down at the start of the move. Many other players are back behind the ball covering for him including Xhaka who takes up the left sided defensive position. It's a good counter attack goal ultimately but Xhaka could have done better to cut out the cross and Mukiele allows DCL to get across him. Nowhere near being Cirkin's fault!

It looked shitty on behalf of several players. Xhaka definitely could do more, Mukiele ball watches instead of watching DCL and where the hell was Adingra? I noticed he was just jogging back in one of the views of the goal I saw. Poor from quite a few players. I'd need to see again coz where was Geertruida also?

I mean it isn’t directly Cirkin fault but why the need to press when most of the team have resorted into a defensive shape? You don’t press with just one. I thought it was idiotic of him tbh, something we’ve never done all season when being 1-0 up

I think in our full strength team he would look better and get more protection, he would be fine as back up to Reinildo.

Its not just that.

Because Xhaka is covering their winger hes not covering their am. Which Alderate reads and covers the cut back for him. If he didnt need to hes near post and that cross is impossible.

Thats the kind of thing that happens when the opposition are playing well together.

Yeah Xhaka seems to have got a complete free pass for standing off his man.

If Cirkin had been in that position he'd have got absolute pelters for doing that. Mind he's got it anyway so he can't win

People love a boo boy on here.

Geertruida was pressing with others to try and stop them playing it out down the left side but a couple of good passes saw Leeds bypass it which then allowed the lovely cross field ball out wide to their winger.

Just out of interest, do you think we would have had a better outcome if you’d been calling the shots from the bench yesterday instead of RLB?
He knows his stuff. He also reckons that a team that finished 4th in the championship and spends 160 million on 14 players should easily finish top half despite the fact that around 18 of the 20 clubs could sell 3 players for that value. He’s a nugget.

I agree with all of that although we do still struggle to score goals!

Not sure what you've watched to come to that conclusion. Cirkin presses as the ball is played back to their keeper. There are several other players (Brobbey, Le Fee etc) all also joining the press as the ball is played out to the left side. Cirkin is not some lone lunatic going AWOL in this example. We press when the situation dictates. We've done it when leaving before but I get the point of normally sitting back and countering when leading. I'm not sure what led to the press prior to it as I've only re-watched the extended highlights and it's not shown.

People are going way over the top on criticism of the goal. We gambled on trying to turn the ball over high up the pitch and almost did. They just got through the press and scored a great goal.

The only person who couldn’t see that was RLB.
Dunno why he never switched to back 5 or at least matched them up

It needed changing at half time we was hanging on for life leading upto it
