There was talk at the time that moving here was partly him trying to have a fresh start to help him move on. I don't think spurs wanted to lose him at the time.His dad passed on before he joined Sunderland
Maybe he's struggling again - which is understandable
I have sympathy for the lad if that’s the case but the fact remains the club has to move on, even when he is totally focused on football it is doubtful if he could ever be considered a regular in a top flight team.

An okay championship level left back on a good day, nothing more. Would be ambivalent at most if he left. At this point I think his injuries are more a mental thing or he might be just playing the game and running his contract down to leave for free and without risking any kind of injury.
That’s how I took that comment as well. He’s covered it with a ‘complaining about his knee’ but I get the feeling his issues aren’t ourely physical. Hopefully if that’s the case the club is putting good support in for him
