This thread has been enlightening. I've found out Dexter is actually, well supposedly, a Sunderland fan! Always thought he was a mag on a wind up.

I'm merely looking at this from an unbiased point of view.

We all laughed at the Mags when we bought the likes of Gyan and Sessegnon while they were signing shite like Kuqi, and yet they make similar calibre signings and all people can say is that they're shite.

If the shoe was on the other foot and we were buying a player from the French Champions and a striker with a proven track record while they were signing free transfers from Birmingham we'd be laughing our cocks off at them.

Happily there seems to be a queue of players leaving the club, heaping pressure on those new players.

Not at all. Nobody has said Cabaye is shite or Ba is shite. People like myself have expressed reservations about both, but accept they could also prove to be good bits of business.

Remember Ba is on a free from West Ham, just like Larsson. So surely if we can laugh at one, we can laugh at the other? In fact, Larsson has a longer proven track record at this level than Ba, so if anyone has any right to laugh, its us. Fact is, both are probably good players for the level of the respective clubs, but Ba has the added bonus of knees that could end his career at any given moment.

Ba could be a great signing if he maintains his goal record from West Ham. Or he could be the next Marcelino or Matty Piper. Not sure why he failed his Stoke medical; maybe cos they play a very physical game they need players to be made of steel

How many have everton, stoke, bolton, blackburn, fulham, wolves, wigan, qpr brought in so far, in a window that is not officially open.
Another drama queen. Why would you be jealous of them signing ba, with half a season behind him, who's uninsurable and was crap against us. a real coup. cabaye someone who hasnt a minute of premier league football to his name, but he's a star already.
And a superstar from Swansea.
No kneejerking from the rockmeister.
The thread is now complete:-D

Failed a medical for a move to Stuttgart as well, hes just a crock

Fair enough; I've no problems with people having reservations about said players but there's some amazing double standards on here.

The majority on here were pissing their pants with excitement when we signed Gyan from a mid table French club and Sessegnon from a team who haven't won the French league in God knows how long and now the Mags sign two seemingly capable players and people can't wait to jump on their backs.

We did exactly the same thing last season by dismissing them before the season had even started; and it very nearly came to bite us in the backsides.

no doubt every goal he scores for the mag, it'll be brought up on here that we should have gone for him by one section on here
and every game he misses through injury, that will be brought up by the other section on here

Spot on

Cabaye - Unproven in this league but has an excellent track record in France
Ba - Has an excellent goalscoring record at every club he's been at
Taylor - Mags made a bid which triggered a release clause. Not sure what gave you the impression that he was unwanted

For an alternate viewpoint.

if you that fckin excited with the scum's new player's fck off and join the
unwashed. sick of all this mag love in bollock's on here like.

I know the people you're talking about, but be careful you don't go too far the other way in trying to take a balanced view.

Personally, I was very wary of the Gyan signing, but happily I've been proved wrong. Sessegnon as well, people were creaming over Youtube vids, but from what I could see he had some skill then lost the ball afterwards  I assumed he'd be a good signing, and he has proven to be, particularly now he has settled, but it was Muntari who I expected to be the bigger, more important of the two given his Premier League pedigree and our desperation for a CM. Again, proved wrong.

Cabaye could be a hit, but much depends on how he settles into the Premier League. It may take him at least one season to get up to the speed and physicality of the league.

A little unfair imo. Cabaye is a central midfielder, probablies the toughest position on the pitch to make the switch to the English style.

Gyan was internationally proven and Sessegnon had looked superb against English opposition in the Emirates Cup.

Ba and Cabaye at this moment in time pose a lot more doubts than Sess and Gyan did as unknowns

Hardly a Mag love-in. I didn't realise I couldn't give my opinion on other team's football players on a football messageboard. Strange..

FFS He didn't even play in the game, so how could he be crap against us.

From little I have seen he looks decent, but we aren't good with healthy knees never mind dodgy ones.

Possibly, especially with Ba's injury problems and Cabaye having big boots to fill replacing Nolan (and possibly Barton).
