Even bigger gap to fill, can Cabaye cross it as well as Barton?

God knows. I just know Cabaye is essentially a creative midfielder. Nolan isn't. Seems to me that he is a replacement for Barton rather than Nolan.

Try to score more than the opposition, baffling isn't it.

Trying, going 3-0 up, and chucking it in the second half after dreadful substitutions and tactical shifts.

Tactics that saw them hammered away at Stoke.

Plus, since when has "scoring more than the opposition" been considered a "tactic"? That's the aim of every manager and team. Pardew's methods in achieving this are very questionable, as are Bruce's at times tbf.

f***ing hell there are some sensitive souls on here.

Anyway a Ba thread is rubbish without des’s enthralling analysis of him
He didn't give us any problems last day of the season. Therefore he is rubbish and is a shite signing for the Mags. Happy days. :)

Was my initial thought as I was reading through your post.

Pardew has done a good job at Newcastle.

 Still makes me chuckle.

Seems like a good player, but a huge risk for more than a short term signing like West Ham had.

No, he hasn't. He's done an adequate at best job. Ask any of their more sensible, knowledgeable fans; some of his tactics have been indefensibly shocking. The 3-0 lead surrender on the final day of the season being an excellent example.

Oh no !!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to slash my wrists , it's the 16th of June and we haven't signed anybody .
Oh woe is me!!!!!!
Did we step aside ? Bruce and Quinn out .

^^^^^ this for fucks sake who f***ing cares as long as by the end of the transfer window we have the players to move us forward

Cabaye - Unproven in this league but has an excellent track record in France
Ba - Has an excellent goalscoring record at every club he's been at
Taylor - Mags made a bid which triggered a release clause. Not sure what gave you the impression that he was unwanted

For an alternate viewpoint.

For someone who's so negative about all of SAFC's dealings you don't seem to find it very hard to put a very positive slant on NUFC's.

It’s the fact he repeated on two different and got ridiculed on both threads for it. He is certainly losing it on here like.

With regards to Ba, he does seem a canny player and squad a few goals in the short time he was at West Ham. This injury worry seems strange though. He clearly failed the medical at Stoke and they weren’t willing to sign him, however someone posted some stats on him, and he doesn’t seem to be out with many injuries.

Depending on the kind of wage structure he would be a useful addition to many squads. Newcastle seem to be running a tight ship at the minute, see Barton and Nolan going who were on high wages. So can’t see them offering silly wages or a long term contract.

 He has done a good job. I fully expected him to struggle like fuck and to be sacked after 3 months.

When you include the loss of Carroll, that's the creative and goalscoring heart of the side completely ripped out.

Smith, apparently a huge dressing room personality, is offski too. It may work in their favour but the team spirit that got them through alot of last season may be lost.

Obviously cutting the wage bill is sensible, and regardless of Smith's presence dressing room, there's no way he's worth the £60+k he's on just to be a bit of a character. Wholesale changes in one transfer window, especially when its key players like Nolan and Barton, could ruin that team spirit though (hopefully).

as id like to class myself as a sensible knowledgable mag then i'll weigh in. In my opinion he's done allright. He kept us up without Carroll so he achieved his goal. Some bad tactical descisions ie west brom when he just took his foot of the gas and some good tactical days man u, sunderland etc. On last season he was no better or worse than Bruce.

He's done better than I first feared but my concern is that he's Mikes pupett who will just roll over. Mike wants to sell his players and he cant do a thing about it.

Both clubs have pretty much been identical since January. Bent leaves, carroll leaves.

henderson leaves, nolan leaves.

Barton will leave, so might Gordan, Steed.

Both clubs are clearly cost cutting and hoping to bring in cheaper and hopefully better alternatives ie cabaye, Gardner, Gibson etc

I'll worry as should everyone else in August when things are done and dusted. Both teams will be unrecognisable from last season and us, like yous just need to worry about our own signings as oposed to each others.

I was worried we'd sign Ba, knowing that he'd play two games then be our new Matty Piper...yet I don't want him to go to the mags in case he does well.

Bloody football :(
