Defoe

Is he staying at Seaham Hall? I've heard he likes the place

I know, we could play a number 10, but I think we do have the players for a 442 diamond

Cattermole at the base, Larsson and Rodwell in centre mid and Johnson behind Fletcher and Defoe

The full backs provide width and you have plenty of numbers in midfield

We have been drilled into thinking we can't play this way, its complete shite, it isn't even that attacking formation at all

out numbered in midfield? we never ever have the ball, so what good is it doing?

teams know they can take risks against us because we never put them under pressure or score goals

To play this though you have to have attacking full backs or you have no width or balance. Jones would need to be fit.

this is the real problem IMO and the midfield we pick plays a big part in it, catts, larsson, gomez are so slow that they never seem to get free or make them selves available, our centre halfs get pressed, cattermole can't get free and what happens? HOOOOOOOOOF

if catts and seb drop deeper they can let the defenders play it out, they both have a good range of passing so with full backs pushing up we have decent enough options to keep possession and with [reasonably] quick players ahead of them they should be able to find enough space to recieve the ball.

johnson playing more central seems to coincide with his and our best moments recently so equally that could be tried out...

Does anyone really give a fook how we play as long as we have Defoe banging them in every week?

We just need goals. We were 2-0 down against City and got two goals straight back. If we want to attack then we can create chances. It's as simple as that. Hopefully Defoe inspires us to attack more.

fair points, but I still think they have been instructed to drop so deep, they literally don't make any attempt to get up the pitch, and if you watch Poyet he isn't asking them too.

That could be a possibility against bigger teams and away from home, but in my post above I think against Burnley and QPR I would try the diamond formation, it leaves you with 4 midfielders in central positions, the fullbacks providing width, and Fletcher and Defoe upfront. Convinced we have the players to easily beat teams at home with this.

Most teams in the league are shite, there is no need to be so fearful.

Expect a thread from me if he does! I really think he will at some point.

Just wait till he puts him on the wing rtg will probably crash !

Yep spot on, the french lad could do it also IMO

I am talking about certain games, West Ham do it, and it really isn't that attacking, I think its more solid than our current formation if anything.

Can anyone start a poll in Pure Football asking "How many goals will Defoe score until the end of the season?"

An example could be to have 12 options with the first 11 options starting with 0 goals going up to 10 goals and then the final one is 11+

German Defoe innit?

Aye, it's pronounced like this

Very decent player but never understood why he swapped Spurs for Portsmouth or why go to the MLS and Toronto. I'm pretty sure that he could have gone to stronger clubs on both occasions. Perhaps he's driven by money.

He might do wel for you, if he stays clear of injury as some radio pundit did say he had a history for getting crocked.

Absolutely no pressure on him. His prededessor turned out to be complete donkey so even a couple of goals will be seen as a massive improvement.

I've read that he wanted to get into the world cup team by playing regular football somewhere. Maybe saw that the most money was in the MLS so went there to impress by scoring a bucket load. It obviously didn't work.
