I agree it would haven been a coup to sign someone of his experience.If Defoe had signed for QPR there would be no debate over his wages or his age. It would just be a given that he's a natural goalscorer that can help keep them up.
He signs for us and nearly all the stories are about his age/wages. If 'Arry had got his man then people would be saying it's a great coup for him and not question the reasoning behind it at all. QPR also have this 'new money' reputation so no-one would be asking whether it's a sensible financial move. The only reason the price is under scrutiny is because Defoe's signing for a club who have had a tight budget lately.
