They are, they'd hate to see a player of that calibre playing for Sunderland
Can he please hurry up and sign.
I've been on the vinegar stroke for ages waiting !

qpr can't afford himThey'll be hoping 'arry' comes in with a late bid, straight to an interview with him through a car window![]()
I'm not going over the top though like some are. Cos it's all dependent on poyet and whether he will change the system. The negativity from some on here is unbelievable. Moan that we don't spend any money, we don't score, we play too defensive then we sign a proven goalscorer albeit he's 32 and they still not happy.
He's a proven premiership goalscorer, 19 international goals, he had a decent record in the MLS too. We not the most attractive club to players therefore getting players like Defoe at 24/25 is going to be difficult, even at 32 we need to pay a bit more in wages and offer longer contracts to secure these deals.
Lets not forget we getting shot of Jozy so saving wages there.
I honestly think Defoe will knock a few goals in for us. Still capable of getting 10/15 goals a season.
Just hope we sign a midfielder and another defender now![]()

No good signing defoe then playing him on the wing or upfront on his own.
And weren't not saving wages defoe is getting paid more than altidore, but getting a much better player for a reported 20k a week more is good enough for me.
Defoe can't play poyet's system though. He's not a lone striker or winger.Poyet's system will work more effectively with better players in it - just like any system anywhere in the world. Defoe won't make us a good side on his own, but he's a start.

Some of the jornos on Twitter are saying gus has been saying to them he wants to play two forwards so this signing might mean a move to that more so at home.Defoe can't play poyet's system though. He's not a lone striker or winger.

How is he not a lone striker? He moves more than Fletcher and Whickham would up front together combined. He runs channels, creates spaces, pulls defenders which opens up gaps for midfielders to come into. Being a lone striker isn't just about having your back to goal and winning headers.
You cannit pass through brick walls which is what we try to do.How is he not a lone striker? He moves more than Fletcher and Whickham would up front together combined. Spurs played completely different football though. It's not so much defoe playing the lone striker role, more playing the lone striker role under poyets football.Defoe did play the lone striker under Villas-Boas at Spurs - and did wellYou must be logged on to see external links
It's not his best position admittedly but at least until we see different I'm happy to see how the team lines up with him in it and what Poyet does to accomodate him.
I reckon he'd be a good lone striker, not for hoofing the ball up to admittedly, but linking up and running onto through balls, playing in front of the opposition CBs etc... Poyet's system is meant to be based around passing, obviously we aren't doing that at the moment, but that's down to the playersDefoe can't play poyet's system though. Allthough not being an authority on all things football, I seem to recall that, a few seasons ago, Defoe left Tottenham for Portsmouth and was there for only one season after which he returned to Tottenham. What's the story behind these chain of events?
Just curious, that's all.
