He's wheeled and dealed to get a wage off our books that was sadly providing very little. He's pretty much maximised that player's value given the circumstances. He's brought in a player against that value so apart from a bit extra money the true cost has been minimised.

As i said, i don't know if it will work, the scouting and checks are down to him too. What i will credit him for is giving us another roll of the dice for a new player to hit the ground running. Apart from the scouting he can do no more.
If Congerton can keep on putting bullets in the gun, then sooner or later they will fire.

Well if the numbers add up and we've basically swapped players with little extra outlay then, aye.

Does anybody know this to be the case tho?

Getting a 32 year old who built his career on pace and energy in and around the box then chose to go to a vastly inferior league (at the expense of his international career) seems an odd person to pin our hopes on tho.

Hopefully he blarrs me right out and bangs in a hatful.

Wasn't Defoe offered to the club though? If so I'm guessing it's more to do with Poyet and Short than the DoF.

At the end of the day this is what it is all about. An experienced Premiership striker has to be preferable to Altidire or Graham or anyone else on our books all other things being even e.g. Length of contract, wages, history of injuries, how much we get for Altidore ...

Every signing is a risk. It's at the point given Jozy's input that this signing is virtually a free role of the dice.

My advice would be to sit back and cross your fingers. If it fails the alternative was watching Jozy run up and down the touchline in his tracksuit on the 75th minute, and not getting on anyway.
 
The article linked in the piece is canny too, Defoe comes across quite well in it - I've always thought hes a good lad but for some reason a lot of people seem to think hes a bad character which ive never understood

This. We could not possibly do any worse. To be honest our bin men have just passed and I'm sure one of them kicked a tin can down the street better than I've ever seen Altidore strike a ball :lol::lol::lol:
