Defoe

He's averaged roughly one goal every three games in his career, similar to fletcher. I just can't see him or anyone scoring many goals in poyets 'system'.
From what i can gather from Gus' various interviews, we don't avtually play Gus' system. We play some kind of retard version because we lack the required players. I think the idea of signing Defoe is to move towards a situation where we have sufficient talent for the mythical Poyet 'system' to reveal itself...

If the papers are to be believed. The deal will cost us 14 million over 3 and a half years, for a 32 year old.

Congerton should hand in his letter of resignation tomorrow.

I am sorry but this argument is just complete rubbish

How fast is Evertons back line, West Hams? Stokes? Newcastles? None of them are faster, people have built this into a massive deal, just because you haven't got olympic sprinters as your centre backs, doesn't mean you have to have 11 men behind the ball

The system is the problem, against Hull there was absolutely nobody anywhere near Fletcher, I watched it the whole half, now are you telling me we need to sit that deep against that Hull side

not having it for one moment, there is absolutely no need to have 3 deep centre mids, no other team in the league does it.

I'm not going to pretend none of the depth is intentional; it's true, we play a defensive system, but if you watch Gus on the sidelines he's screaming at the team to move up incessantly. I know other CB pairings in the league are slow, but I genuinely believe JOS & Wes hold back at least 5 yards behind where they should because of their pace, and they still get turned constantly. Just look at the penalty decision against Liverpool. They tried to play a normal line and got torn apart.

I'm not saying it's the whole reason, but it certainly contributes.

Another reason is the speed of our fullbacks. Vergini is so slow that Johnson has to drop back down the pitch to cover for him, so that's another behind the ball. Gomez doesn't push up as high as he should or as quickly, so that's another one, and when Rev was playing instead of PVA, Wickham was constantly dropping back too.

Yes we do hold to many people back, but as I say, I don't believe it's the system. It's the players that are the problem. We need more talent, we need more pace, and we need more time to coach the finer points of Gus' style.

The people who say that we play negative defensive crap every game don't understand what Gus is trying to achieve. Whether or not he is succeeding in this currently is another matter.

No it won't. That figure is the total figure including any transfer fee we are paying and wages.

The real Poyet system is the one we saw during the great escape at the end of last season. That move where we made 45 passes or something then hit the bar was crazy.

This all over. All he ever seems to do is scream at the players to get forward yet they rarely ever do.

Shows how much the team misses Ki really.

That the same match Ki didn't play in?
