Defoe

He's no better than Fletcher stats wise and five years older. Aside from one season where he got 18 (6 years ago) his next best is 13 then 11. I really hope we aren't paying what's being touted for him.

this transfer works to our advantage. having altidore has put us front runners. if the club have been clever they'll have asked for money on top of what defoe is worth. we can the use that to pay the majority of his wage.

JERMAIN DEFOE has agreed a whopping £14million pay deal to return to English football with Sunderland.
The Black Cats will give hitman Defoe a 3½-year contract worth £80,000 a week in the hope he can fire the goals that will secure Premier League safety.

And the former England star could make his Sunderland debut on Saturday — at old club Tottenham.

Defoe, 32, has been desperate to return to the Premier League after a miserable season with MLS outfit Toronto.

The Black Cats need a proven goalscorer after netting 18 times this term.

And a run of one win in 11 games has left Gus Poyet’s side just a point above the drop zone.

Ironically, Defoe has spent the past week training with Spurs’ Under-21 squad to maintain his fitness during the MLS close season. Aston Villa, Hull, Leicester and QPR have been chasing Defoe.

But he has opted for Wearside with Jozy Altidore possibly moving to Canada in part exchange.

I find it bizarre that we didn't pay Borini this much though.
Honestly doubt we will be paying him 80k a week but also if we are we probably haven't paid a transfer fee for him as we will most likely straight swap for altidore therefore saving money on a transfer fee to go towards higher wages.
