On what ground did you make your debut, and what were your thoughts about it?

For me, South Moor. Thoughts... Is it always this cold here? That Denison bloke is a bit quick!

East Rainton need I say any more

Durham City.

Got lost trying to find it, lovely ground, we got f***ing hammered and my bowling got tonked all over the ground.

Lanchester, when they were playing outside the village on the top of a hill - was it called something like Ransome Marles factory ground ??

Showing my age as it was for Leslies and they folded in the late 70s - in the North East Durham League.

Bournmoor for Whitburn U18s. Made a couple runs, didn't bowl. Played for 1 season before becoming too old for U18 cricket and being told I wouldn't get into any of the 3 senior teams.

Then a break until the SMBcc was formed, so my 2nd debut was at Wearmouth where I was bowled first ball by a ball that bounced 3 times. Can't recall if I bowled.

3rd team debut would have been at home to Sacriston IIRC. Enjoyed it as we had a good team spirit.

2nd team debut was away to Coxhoe, where I was inexplicably put into bat at 5. Should have been given a leg bye but the other lad refused to run and I was promptly bowled 2 balls later. Didn't bowl despite being told to warm up 4 or 5 times.

Rawtenstall cricket club was the venue for my first ever game I must have liked it but all I can really remember was liking pissing about with the score box.

SMB debut at Wearmouth, I really enjoyed that day didn't realise I would still have some ability after not playing for 10 or 11 years and tbh if Wearmouth had asked me to play for them I would probably have signed then and there as a few others might have done. Glad I didn't, always thought Wearmouth missed a trick there.

HCC 3rd team debut at Houghton against Hetton Lyons enjoyed it and did well but after seeing them I did wonder what I had let myself in for the week after against Durham City didn't improve matters. It wasn't till a few weeks later that I knew Hetton had played 3 or 4 1st teamers and Durhma City were miles ahead of anyone.

HCC 2nd team debut Coxhoe away, again thinking what the hell have I let myself in for playing in a cow pat feild while having to keep wicket having never done it in a proper game before, then opening the batting whilst watching my opening partner play at an imaginary ball 3 foot outside outside offstump even though the actual ball never left middle stump, I was then given out bat before wicket all the whilist getting a right stuffing. Oh and also being asked for a major input on the batting order. I doubt me, mick, craig or pepper will forget that game.

HCC 1sts debut away to stanhope now that is a long way to go for a game what a boring journey that is. I was out of form but still never felt out of my depth and enjoyed it.

Greenside, an away Match for the U13s, I was 9. Just seemed huge. Years later we played them and Steve Gamble hit 38 off Wishart in the last over to win a Cup Game and I realised it was actually quite small.

It was the worst pitch I had ever played on this year on 18th September

Shurdington CC, Cheltenham. Lovely ground overlooked by a pub on one side and a church spire on the other, a classic setting for village cricket. The pub has a huge conservatory right by the boundary, this has recently become a target for our big hitters.
