Dan Neil

He had a couple of good games against lower half - likely to be league 1 next season - oppo and the Dan boys went wild.

He's always been sloppy. He's always been caught in possession. He's always been too slow in picking his passes.

He's a mid-table Championship midfielder.
Mental that you can post he only had a couple of good games. He was our best player for 2/3 months.

He wasn't even our worst midfielder on Saturday.

Bet Dan Neil is top of the man of the match thread. He's had more than one or two good games. We still have some good players but something is not right. Fatigue, poor mentality, wrong tactics or something we are not aware of? Perhaps like Watson our midfielders have already agreed to go to other clubs at the season end.
Remember that thing about not winning things with kids? Well, that. We have a very young and inexperienced team that lacks physical and mental maturity. It's caught up with us.

.
You've clearly bought into this "generational talent" bollocks with Jobe and Rigg. Keep on dreaming lad.
Jobe and Rigg are both younger than Dan, much younger. Dan is only a year younger than Le Fee and still hasn't been linked with any credible Premier League side, simply because he isn't that good. He's a decent centre mid at championship level no more no less. The 2 generational talents you speak of both need a big kick up the backside or they are in danger of missing out on the Premier League gravy boat.

Depends what you mean by credible link. He could have moved as a kid when Donald was selling off players but chose not to. He's been linked to clubs tentatively over the years and more recently to the likes of Everton. Patterson for example is linked all the time to top clubs - it doesn't mean anything really does it? I've no doubt given his contract is running down that should he not renew he'll end up at a PL lower end or parachute payment club, though at the moment I don't think he's quite good enough to step up. His form this season wouldn't make PL clubs break the bank, but one or two would certainly take him in their squads to see how he adapts.

I don't give a shit how old much older he is than Jobe or Rigg really as he's still relatively young and has improved this season, having usually had to play a deeper role often almpst isolated in a quite rigid midfield, with far more responsibility on him than the other two. The key for me is that he has improved and that he is able to. His downfall at times in terms of strength or awareness/taking to long on the ball have been lessened, but still evident at times. He sometimes doesn't react well in defensive situations but he's become far better and stronger when covering and breaking up play and at times his strength getting hold of the ball and moving forward out of tight areas inbetween players has improved too and became an impressive feature. He's also been the player we've often relied upon as we've regressed to move forward with the ball and break the opposition press.

I can't say at the moment that Rigg has improved at all having had a few good moments earlier in the season, its been like playing with ten men for far too long and he should be nowhere near the side.

Jobe looked to have improved and he looked to have formed a decent bit of a link with Neil for a good spell, but he's not been the same since he had an injury or suspension way back.

So you saying Neil isn't even our 2nd best central midfielder is nonsense really. It's all dependant on age, potential, links to other clubs, how good you feel the others may become etc and not really what they've done.

We'll probably lose Jobe this summer and to be honest I think its for the best as although he's only 19 I don't think he's going to improve to the level some think and his value due to age and potential may never be higher, so it's probably the time to sell.

Unfortunately Dan doesn't have enough to his game to be of interest to even the bottom half of the premier league. Of course that might change if he suddenly has a flurry of goals and assists. At the moment he's only as good as his last 2 games which were extremely poor. Jobe and Rigg in particular are playing nothing like as good as we know both can be. Nobody should be guaranteed a first team place based only on reputation.

He's played 90% of his mins this season as a defensive midfielder. His performance / ability should hardly be measured on his goals / assists.

Something is not right in the squad and their relationship with the management. There is obviously a disconnect. The intensity has gone, every game is morphing into the same performance. Players like Neil have regressed to where they were when struggling. Others like Patterson Jobe and Roberts are just cruising without any repercussions. They get picked no matter what. I imagine some of them think the hype around them that they are PL bound is enough for them.
We seem completely reliant on the likes of newcomers like Mayenda and Isidor to do something special but neither can carry the team alone.
This imo is going to end very poorly with massive questions on RLB although I would imagine supported by the board saying we’ve ’over achieved’ this season.
The whole process will start again next season as some whose heads were turned are shipped out. Although I can’t see a massive demand for many who are failing to live up to their ‘supposed’ potential
Said to a Coventry fan who was being prick ( just to shut him up really)

“ we qualified for the play offs months ago and we’re on the beach”

I’ll cling to that……

He's been playing the Pirlo role, albeit not at that standard, which doesn't mean he can't score goals or do assists.

Not exactly. Pirlo often had someone in alongside him like De Rossi or Gatusso.

In our team this season he's been asked to sit in front of the defence primarily and allow Rigg / Jobe to be the play makers.

Tbf to Neil, even when he has a bad game, he's usually been on the ball more than his other 2 midfield team mates in Rigg and Jobe, who don't seem to have any effect on games recently. The pair just seem to be stuck in no mind land atm, neither contributing to attack or defence. Its alarming how many passengers there seems to be in the starting 11 at the moment.

His form over three months of the season will have had clubs looking given the link to Everton. Unlikely many PL clubs will go out on a limb for a 23 year old at this level unless they're absolutely outstanding - no ones saying he is though.

He's played almost the entire season as the deepest midfielder moving the ball around, covering, staying back as cover on set pieces and even played inbetween the centre backs at times - and your gripe now is goals and assists? He's still got two goals and 3 assists to Jobes 4 and 3 and Riggs 4 goals 1 assist. The latter in 29 starts and 5 sub appearances is absolutely disgusting given he's been the most advanced midfielder all season and almost up front with Isidor at times.

Also never said anyone should be guaranteed a game.

Not really read all this thread but Neil has been our best player for a couple months. Jobe Rigg have fallen off a cliff.
we need le fee back
