It was absolutely the only innings he could play given that wickets continued to fall around him. If he'd had gone after the bowling too early they would have scored well under 200, as it stands he's given them a chance.

It's a world cup semi final and our biggest one day innings in over 25 years. I agree we'll probably win if we bat 50 overs but this will be very tough I expect.

If that was England I would have rather seen us try to post 250 plus that limp along at 4.3 an over. If that meant we only posted 180 so be it. Morgan would not have played like Smith. As I've already said Root always scores at all but a run a ball.

Smith has given the Aussies a degree of respectability but only a 1 in 20 chance of winning. Not for me but you are different.
