Any thoughts on how cricket helmet technology might now move given the tragic events surrounding Phil Hughes death?

Seems as though he was hit on the back of the neck, just above the vertebrae.

Flappy bit at back? Just a thought. Or padding around neck?

Aye just a bit of removable shoftish padding should do to prevent actual death . Not really necessary though , this was a freak . If we reacted at this level we would all be eating with plastic cutlery . RIP Phil , gone to where rain never stops play

This suggests the model introduced this season would have helped him out. I reckon the suggestion of a skull cap around the skull would be the least restrictive but would somehow have to be designed to stop your head boiling when the temperature gets up.

I cant grasp how they still make them so the ball can get above/through the grille.

Anyone remember Daryl Cullinan? Used to wear his grille so tight to his face his nose was over the top of it

I think he just had a massive head.

Only so impregnable you can make a cricket helmet without impeding a batsman's ability to bat.

Not sure today's the day to start thinking about that tbh mate.

Masuri already looking at the video too see how they can improve the helmets. They were asked for their opinion this morning.

Fitting legacy to the lad if it results in a huge reduction in risk in the future.

A cynic might see both a corporate threat and a marketing opportunity " all your old helmets are dangerous , renew" but let's have more elevated thoughts on a day like today

The grille is adjustable to make it easier to see out of, downside is the ball can then get through.

If you adjust the grille properly the ball should not fit between the grille and the peak on the helmet yes I have seen once the ball go through (Stuart Broad) but at club level this should not be happening with a decent helmet
