Cricket at the Olympics

I’m such a hideous statto nerd that I know that 1900, the year of cricket’s only Olympic appearance, was the first year that the six ball over was used in England. Prior to that, Law 13 read as below.

“The ball shall be bowled in overs of five balls from each wicket alternately. When five balls have been bowled, and the ball is finally settled in the bowler's or wicket-keeper's hands, the umpire shall call "Over." Neither a "no ball" nor a "wide ball" shall be reckoned as one of the "over." ”

I wonder if there were those during the Paris Olympics expressing outrage at this disgraceful new fangled (and worse, Australian) six ball innovation 😉

be interesting to see how they work the tournament, rumour was only 6 teams and one would be the host nation, England would have to incorporate scotland and NI to be team GB, West Indies would have to be separate islands
