I used to get it loads when I was running most days, especially in my sleep. Got told that it was because I never used to stretch out properly after a run and with my runs usually being later on a night, it was just my body not processing the lactate for a longer period of time than a normal person.
It was horrific when it happened through the night though as it felt like my calf was gonna tear in half and then I could never get back to sleep for hours afterwards.
