Coventry

Good question.

We have several players that should be playing above Championship level but the jump up to the Prem is massive. Expect Rudoni to have a good season. Has been playing with an injury for the last 18 months but had an operation the day after we confirmed the Championship title. Expected to be back during pre season. Onyeka is proven at Prem level. If we manage to get Rushworth he is easily good enough.

Then you come to other players like Mason-Clark and Sakamoto that have been beating players for fun that will have a big part to play if good enough. Our 1st team will be good enough for squad players minimum. Wright and Simms will score goals but not as many. MVE as RB will surprise a few with his attacking and pace, but he will be needed more for defensive duties.

We're going to be more about a good close squad more than outstanding players. Our attacking play is quick with all of our players capable of scoring. We've just had 5 players score 10 goals or more each. Torp is now fit and keeps scoring worldies that no GK would save. He doesn't like shooting closer than 25 yards 😁

We've just had the best defence as well as the best attack. GD of +52 over the season isn't too shabby. But I have more confidence going forward than with the defence. If we don't strengthen our defence we will be in for a long hard season.
:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Most of the team good enough apparently.

We'll be looking at our usual 6 points off yourselves for starters 😂

But on a more serious note do you normally make such predictions when you have no idea which players will be involved? Were you one of the many that thought we wouldn't get promoted?
You have a good record against us recently, but for what it's worth you have never taken 6 points from us in a season.
I certainly wouldn't write Coventry off without a ball being kicked as the beggars did to us last season. They would however be foolish to think that staying up is easier these days just because Leeds and us have managed to do it. It's just as difficult as it has always been and it still requires a huge step up in the standard of football that a team has been used to playing in the Championship. And its a standard that has to be achieved week after week.

Still on the bright side I hear that the parachute payments are still quite generous these days. 😉
It's like a complete reversal of last year when everyone was saying no promoted team will ever stay up again. Very reactionary.

Coventry might stay up but if their plan is to stick with most of their current squad and only make a few additions there's a very good chance they'll go straight back down.

The 1st team is good enough for a Prem squad. Maybe not for the 1st team though. Nobody will know how good they are until tested.
How many of your squad would get into our first 11 or a Fulham?

Thats the difference you need to make up. Will be hard without spending huge sums

We know there's a good chance we go back down whatever we do. But having a few players that had big offers come in for shows we might have a few players good enough.
Burnley’s squad got 100 points… they have won 4 games all season… hope this helps.
They were poor going forward in the Championship. They just ground out results with their defence.

Losing only 2 out of 46 games yet only making 100 points?

Van Ewik

Torp

Just listing the players you've named. Onyeka should step up fine and your goalie if he signs is highly rated. After that I'm not so sure. You will have players who make the step up, and I'd suggest Rudoni might make it. Ballard and Hume have surprised many of us, however they have genuine Premier League quality players around them now.

Are Mason-Clark and Sakamoto any better than Clarke? A player who has proven to be too good for the Championship but not been able to step up.

Wright blows hot and cold even in the second tier and Simms doesn't look anywhere near the level. How much better than Isidor and Mayenda are they?

Your full backs won't be able to attack as much as you'd like in the Premier League unless you change your shape e.g. a back three/five and I'm not sure how likely that is. Torp doesn't even seem anything more than a decent Championship player.

I like watching Coventry but I also liked watching our Championship side and they'd get crucified in the Premier League unfortunately. Your business in the summer will be all important as at the moment I can't see more than a handful of your current players being good enough.

Good luck 👍

Summer transfers still to come, but if I had to make a call now, I think you will stay up next year. There's at least two PL clubs with clueless ownerships.

Onenka has proved he cant make it in the prem , played 75 times in the prem and only started 31, I wouldn't say he will be fine. Been on loan last 2 seasons
The 1st team is good enough for a Prem squad. Maybe not for the 1st team though. Nobody will know how good they are until tested.
The 1st team isn't good enough for a prem squad at all. You are basically saying your 1st 11 will always play with prem clubs for most of the rest of their career, they won't.

Can they afford to do anything other than rely on the players who won promotion?
We'd spent jack for years and sold a player for £30m. Allowed us to spend something like £150m or whatever it was on 12 players
They've spent a canny bit (Gyokeres money?) to get to this point and have nobody to sell. Can't see them being able to do much.
Maybe the have players who will step up like Hume and Ballard have but if they have 11 of them they'd have smashed the 100 point mark.
Interesting to see what calibre of player they can attract.

Leeds had the most ready squad used 5 regulars from last season but they had all played in the Premier before.

We have used 3 regularly and a couple a bit.

If 3/4 or your current side make it means you need 7 just to make a starting 11 and 10 fore a core. Its a huge step up and if you only have just over a 100 to spend and 20 goes on your keeper its going to be a tough ask.

Zero chance Simms is good enough hes fine for the championship.

I'm not buying it with Rudoni either tbf. He'll be what 26(?) next season, and is unlikely to noticeably improve, has never played above the second tier and has never had any serious interest from a top flight team. He's a very good Championship player, no doubt. So was Jack Clarke, so was Dan Neil, so was Patrick Roberts.

MVE is our RB.

Clarke isn't as good as many say. He is best at diving and not much more.

Torp will score goals if he plays. Now injury free and ready to go. Scored 10 this season and most were worldies.

Mason-Clark should be OK. A very strong tricky player who also scores goals. He will get more protection in the Prem. Sakamoto also has a decent chance. He constantly puts players on their arse when they try to stop him.

It certainly isn't going to be easy next season, but we do have some good players. Our midfield season 'wobble' happened because the flu went right through our squad at the same time we had some big injuries and then suspensions to our defenders all at the same time.

We had a few big offers come in before the season started. We kept every player we wanted to but sold the others. We've would have smashed the 100 points and 100 goals if we didn't have our squad decimated mid season. We didn't even have enough players to fill the subs bench at one stage. MVE played 2 games where he was so bad with the flu that he was being sick on the touchline during the games.

Is that why we had a couple of big offers for him pre season?

You will also see a better player next season. He has struggled with a shoulder injury for 18 months and has just had an operation hoping he will be ready for the start of the season. He has been playing with his shoulder strapped for months.

I think you're in for a very, very, rude awakening. Be good to come back to this thread in a year's time.

Leave them to enjoy their promotion and the euphoria of being back in the Premier League, the real work should be getting done behind the scenes now planning on their squad for the season ahead. For me the main concern would be if Lampard is actually good enough to handle the Premier League too as his record with Chelsea and Everton isn't fantastic.
