County Cricket 2026

7/63 for the match. Already the run-away leading wicket taker in division 2 (21 wickets at 12.09). The way he was treated by Stokes and McCullum was disgusting. Could understand it if he was on the wane and living off past glories, but he was in the best form of his career.
Obsession with pace for all the good it did in the Ashes. A bunch of injury prone bowlers who ended up being injury prone.

Could have easily been rotated along with Woakes instead of retired.

Just another reason for why those in charge shouldn't be where they are.

Potentially three gripping run chases to watch tomorrow as the games enter their final day.

Somerset need 148 more to beat Hampshire with 7 wickets remaining. James Rew has passed 50 for the second time in the game and is still unbeaten. He and Abell have put on 80 odd so far for the fourth wicket. The concern for Somerset is that they haven’t got much left to come after that pair. They’re effectively playing three number elevens.

Lancashire need a further 127 to win at Bristol, they also have 7 wickets remaining. Gloucestershire will be kicking themselves though, as they lost their last 6 wickets for 22 to leave Lancashire needing just 202 to win. It should’ve been 300+.

Essex need 195 to beat Warwickshire after closing the final day on 11-0 in pursuit of 206.

The game at Northants is looking like being a draw unless Middlesex suffer an epic collapse on the final day - they’re 41 ahead with 9 second innings wickets remaining.

Anderson was not in the best form of his career either people have short memories

He wasnt good in the 23 ashes but he was England's best pace bowler by a long way in India in 23/24 so I would say he was dropped despite form not because of form
Anderson is the greatest master of seam bowling that I have seen in 70 years of watching test cricket. He was discarded prematurely from playing test cricket but discarding him also from coaching and advising England bowler is both ignorant and arrogant in the extreme.

The irony being that as predicted by a few, the pitches in Australia mainly suited old fashioned seam bowling. Look at the success Boland and Neser had with the keeper standing up - although I don't think Smith is skilled enough to stand up to the stumps like Carey did to give them an extra dimension.

I wouldn't have minded if they jettisoned Jimmy a little more respectfully and as we had world class potential waiting in the wings, but it was an ageing Woakes who was gone by the time the Ashes came around anyway, and we ended up with a bowler (Carse) opening in Australia when he doesn't even open at county level.

Northants fans not happy that the umpires took the players off in what seemed to be decent light.

One of those umpires was Surendiran Shanmugam who did the same thing in our match against Kent.

He may need to adjust his light meter settings.

4 days in a row and the floodlights were on. I was there on Saturday and seemed fine to me. Lost the equivalent of a days play over the 4 days.

Somerset win in a tense conclusion. Could this be our year?

Of course not....

I started getting excited for you following the win but then I saw the table and there’s so much congestion up at the top!

Mind the next three games give Somerset a great opportunity to really begin to build a lead and complete the first portion of the season in a strong position. Which given the growing talk regarding Rew’s imminent England call up is probably very much required.

Yorkshire (h)
Glamorgan (a)
Sussex (h)

All teams who were either tipped to struggle or are struggling. Will be interesting to see if the pitches for the two home games are more helpful to Leach.

Somerset have managed, by default, over recent years to maintain a squad, just below test selection level.......bringing relative strength and consistency.

Whilst I wouldn't begrudge Rew his cap, personally, I'd rather keep him at Taunton!
