County Cricket 2024

What I didn't realise until reading an article on Twitter is that the members of the England white ball squad won't be available for T20 finals day. The stupidity of the ECB just gets worse
I clocked that farce as soon as the fixtures came out. Finals Day right in the middle of an England T20 series, and a pointless one at that.

It’s really disappointing finals day (which is a great day to watch cricket) will have some of the best players unavailable.

I imagine it a hard job doing and fitting in all the fixtures but surely there was a way to not have a two international games either side of it

Tymal Mills says its stupid that England players can't play.

Although he is right, expect him to be bundled in the back of an ECB van and disappear forever.

Marty on his twitter/X feed is stating Somerset win ladt night means the ladt 13 quarter finals of the blast have been won by Southern group teams.

16 year old Farhan Ahmed 7/140 in his maiden CC apperance against Surrey. Bowled 50.4 overs in the innings as well!!!

Following on from 3/87 against Sri Lanka on FC debut

Some start for the young lad, most likely a better bowler than his brother!
Not knocking the lad but a few of the wickets were horrible hoicks caught on the boundary. Some good wickets in there too, seemed to be a fairly quick, not flighted off break bowler

Would a 2 league system of north and south teams together work?

It’s been clear for a while now how much better the south is, could we not have a league structure starting with top 4 north and south together then the 2 bottom 4 with promotion/relegation. I’m sure it wouldn’t work with the hundred, but for the sake of my argument if we scrapped the hundred would that be logistically feasible?

Probably better just to tell the Northern section to improve especially Lancs Notts Birmingham and Yorkshire they are have more wealth/resources than the majority of the southern counties.

He’s wrong although the real record isn’t much better. If Birmingham lose tonight, that’ll be three of the last four finals days entirely Southern Group but the exception was 2022 when Lancs and Yorks qualified so it’s 9 in a row at most (and 13 of the last 15).

Edit - it’s 8 in a row, the last QF in 2022 and all seven since.

Haven't really noticed until now but it's turning into a bit of a southern dominated sport across all formats isn't it? Leicestershire and Warwickshire the most "northerly" teams to win something recently I think?
