County Championship Reduction For 2026?

And God bless all those ex professionals who have died suffering from horrific injuries caused from it.

The years of hospital treatment and unable to walk..the amount of dementia patients from football and cricket etc.

If your job did that to you.

Wow just wow.

In hope you don't have to suffer anything from your job in future years.

Oh hang on let's bring back the coal mines shall we?

Jog on.
Lads just ignore this clown. Don’t give him the attention he desires.

He was on the other day repeating his mantra that the CC is a waste of time and only attended and apparently governed by a handful of over 65s. He has plenty of form for making stuff up (and as I’m typing this, I’m wondering why I’m even bothering).
When you respond you're giving him the attention for which he craves. He's harmless and presumably a Bilynomates. Have some compassion.

Is he the bullshitter who clams he has retired and lives on £450 a month ?

Don’t know about his rudeness but he’s a bullshitter based on the retirement claims
Saves money by doing this though

“I buy all Morrison's hot food reduced stuff every night at 10p a hot dog etc.
Let them all cool down to room temp, pop in freezer couple of hours later then defrost then cook them as normal on a weekend.”
😳

Still its nice to have Rob Key on the forum!!!

from a Guardian article

".....With 12 votes required to alter the structure, Surrey, Yorkshire, Middlesex, Essex and Somerset have already stated they will oppose any reduction to the current 14-game season, with the voting intentions of Derbyshire, Sussex and Kent in the balance. The 10 other counties – an unlikely alliance of Test match grounds and Division Two sides such as Leicestershire and Northamptonshire – are broadly in favour but need two other clubs to come on side......"

Probably because you’ve crammed an unprecedented fourth format that nobody wanted or asked for into the already congested calendar you streak of piss.
The substance of your point regarding how it was shoehorned in is a valid one of course, but the pedantic old man in me has to point out that there were four domestic formats from 1972 when the Benson & Hedges Cup was introduced to 1999 when the Gillette/ NatWest became 50 overs a side. So it’s hardly unprecedented.

Oh…..and at the drop of a hat, the ‘exhausted’ players whore themselves out for any of the various currencies that are on offer for playing t20 anywhere in the world.

Yeh,and that was 50+ years ago when transport links were far inferior and they played 20 CC games, albeit of 3 days duration. The season was virtually May to August in effect a 20 week season whereas we now have a 26 week season. So we now have an elongated season with far fewer days of cricket. 4 domestic tournaments is unprecedented in the modern era.- not like you to be pedantic 😀
No doubt it was stressful and no doubt still is but players were approached about the issue rather than taking issue themselves. ECB propaganda to undermine the CC and further promote their Godchild the Hundred.
Personally I don't have an issue with a reduced CC if it allows a full commitment and marketing of domestic 1Day and T20 cricket.

Amazing how they aren't exhausted whenever the franchise dollar is on offer. Maybe, just maybe, these players globetrotting all year around for short format contracts are tired because the only break they get is when the County Championship starts and they make themselves unavailable?

I’m lighting the blue touch paper and retiring immediately!

“Durham chief executive Tim Bostock outlines why a refreshed four-day competition, with a top tier of 12 counties and a second of six, can transform red-ball cricket in England.

A few things quickly become clear when listening to Durham chief executive, Tim Bostock, talk about the proposed new structure for the .

Firstly, he is absolutely convinced it would be a positive step for the first-class game in England. Secondly, he is fiercely passionate about the Championship's survival. And thirdly, he is extremely frustrated by the possibility that the proposal could be rejected when votes are counted.

Bostock led the working group that settled on the 13-game structure that is currently before the counties, who are due to cast their votes at the end of this week.

It is instructive to hear the views of the proposal's instigator, even if just to have some clarity on an issue that has sown confusion and suspicion in some quarters. Much of the public debate has centred around the number of games, dropping from 14 to 13, and the vote - which requires the approval of a two-thirds majority - is expected to be extremely tight.

This is where Bostock's frustration is evident; he believes the number is a red herring when focus should be on the competition's rejuvenated format and the rewards and jeopardy he feels it would create each season.

"Your last three rounds of the season, you have the top six teams in the country, best versus best, which is brilliant. And equally, you've also got your bottom three teams in each conference playing against each other," Bostock told The Cricketer.

"You could attract some really good overseas players on short-term red-ball contracts for that super six phase, which immediately elevates the standard. And then in any given year, when England have finished all their Tests, you get some England players available as well.”

After Covid, Bostock was fanatical about the three tier conference system.

Within 5 year he now thinks 12 and 6 is better.

Either he doesn't know what he wants or there is more money in the new system.

He's not interested in county cricket. He's just a festering boil on the arse. The sooner he goes the better.
