Counting calories....

Is it because good calories end up as muscle and sugar calories end up as flab?

In a nutshell I'd say so like. Doesn't take a genius to work out that if you eat 2300 calories made up of fruit and veg etc and replace that with processed, high sugar foods it's not gonna be as good for you like. It's only in the very recent years of human development that we've had such high calorific food available so our bodies can't process it properly and also hold onto it as fat cos from an evolution point of view our bodies don't realise that there isn't a food shortage coming up so therefore it prepares us for potentially not having enough to eat in the future.

The average joe doesn't read the nutritional info etc. They just see "low fat" and think thats healthy.

That's what he is trying to get across

I cannot believe that mind, its so easy to spot the red on the labels telling people that its high in something be it fat, salt, sugars etc if people are just throwing things into there trolleys then they have no1 but themselves to blame, I check everything as I don't want to be feeding my kids sh.te food.

I've been averaging about 1000 calories a day this week, trying to detox from last week's excesses. Strangely finding it very easy, even though I know it's not enough for a 6'2" bloke long term.

It'll all go out the window with an all dayer on Saturday though anyway.

Aye, same here usually for an evening meal, or thereabouts. It's a one week thing, I consumed about 1000 over target per day last week, so this week I'm going the other way. Then I'll be back to target (circa 1900 a day). 1900 per day is simple enough usually, usually stick to about 1500 and then add the rest up for the weekend!

That said though, I've found it surprisingly easy to have a main meal at around 500-600 calories. Close to zero fat meals with plenty of veg and a few carbs.

Can have quite a big bowl of Spaghetti Bolognese for little over 300 calories too using soy protein instead of mince. Of course I'll have two as I'm a fatty at heart!

You are dead to me.

I'll mix a bit beef in next time mate, can't be having that. ;)

Love it me though, hate quorn but love that soy protein, I think it's because they put it in pot noodles to get me addicted.

Tastes the same/similar in a bolognese to my tastebuds.

I saw a recipe idea on the side of a Fage yoghurt pot last week.

Mix some watercress and other stuff I hadn't heard of into the 0% fat Fage total and serve with salad and a chicken breast. It must be a Greek thing - yoghurt with white meat.

Where have you seen this like mate? Wouldn't mind seeing the other side of the coin

I get about 80% of my calories from the drink, I eat next to nowt. Unfortunately, age is catching up and my 6 pack is now almost invisible.

Or I'm a pisspot with a very poor diet, one of the two.

A calorie is simply that a measure...billions being made pretending otherwise..

if you burn more than you take in then you will lose weight..other than specialised short term times..such as carbo loading before a marathon..most of the diet plan promoting magic combos of various different foods are tosh

Did one of those Bupa Health Check things today, quite useful although I'm still awaiting blood test results...

Anyway, of note, they said my BMI is "only" 25.1 as I'm an inch taller than I thought I was. My body fat is close to 21% which they say I can sort with a bit exercise. My resting heart rate is 61bpm which is supposedly good and my lung capacity tested ok too.

So overall I'm happy enough with it, could do with losing another half a stone or so and presumably I need to do something to reduce the body fat too? I know, cut down on the beer/pies.:lol:
