Congratulations, I am delighted for you as a club and as a city. What an achievement.

Ever single Mackem I know has text me and my wife won’t stop going on about it, but honestly we weren’t good enough for the Europa League this year, and the table doesn’t lie. I did all 8 games in the Europa League and it was incredible. Some massive sides, you’ll have a great time.

Am I disappointed? A little, but I’ll get over it. That’s football and if we get through the play offs, the Conference League will be fun.

Well done and enjoy the summer.

P.S - Ask the Saudis if you can borrow their airport.

We often bang on about title contenders, the cups and of course Europe. But they are merely short and medium term targets. A test of a clubs character and mettle is asking them to start with nothing in League One, get promoted from the Championship in 4 years and 12 months later get 7th place and Europe. It’s easy to do when you have a few years under your belt, a few star players and a few million in your bank. Try doing it from a staring point of having literally nothing.

They may be able to win cups, titles and get into Europe, not to mention sign some pretty impressive players, but let’s strip the wealth and success from the big boys, and see if the big boys can do better.
