Factually incorrect in a five match series

Mathematically incorrect but no Ashes series in England has produced a result in every match in living memory and only one team in Ashes history has come back from 2 down to win it. That was nearly a century ago.

So whilst it was mathematically possible, it’d have taken something miraculous and unprecedented (from an England perspective to happen). It was incredibly unlikely to happen. And so it has materialised
They’ve retained the ashes, unless they win in London he won’t go down as an ashes winning captain. Same as Payne never.

They could put 650 on over two days in London and effectively bat England out of the game and draw. That’d make him an Ashes winning captain too

Good point.

England a size brimming with confidence have lost an Ashes series (or cant win it) within 4 tests against an Australian side who have one all time great (Smith in their ranks). By comparison and for context they had 5 in 2005 when we beat them (Warne, Mcgrath, Hayden, Ponting & Gilchrist).

England have lost for a number of reasons:
Not picking the right bowling attack for flat wickets ie, too many 79-85 mph merchants
Stokes picking his mates
Not getting the balance right with bazball in the first two tests
Stokes unbalancing the side by not bowling
Unlucky with the weather
Not backing Ahmed or Foakes (we were two down by the time Ali and Bairstow started to contribute)

I've lived in Australia for over 30 years and staunchly supported England over that time and have watched on surrounded by aussies at the SCG and beyond watching some absolute dross play for us tour after tour (with some exceptions). I'm not as bothered about cricked much these days but still absolutely want england to win each and every ashes series.

forget the weather, we've throw this series away with points that have already been mentioned but what's also annoying is the like of piers morgan crying on twitter every f***ing day... it tars us all with the same brush and makes us look ridiculous.
we lost when we coud have so easily won and we have to take that on the chin and learn from it.

the other side of that is the aussies are also getting roasted here, particularly Cummins's woeful captaincy. they're not exaclty shouting from the rooftops about their performances.

Confirmed that Brandon knows nothing about cricket

I will now take no lectures from him

Good news Warner and Smith CV looks crap

You don’t take any from me anyway.

The regular punters on here will appreciate exactly what this thread was all about and why it happened, we may not have lost, but the urn isn’t coming home either.

You didn’t get it, I didn’t expect you to. Get back to your spamming and let all of us who do actually care about cricket have our conversations and our space in which to do it.

Still all boils down to that declaration. If we bat into day 2 in that test, we draw that test imo and end up winning the Ashes.
It was f***ing hideous tbf
All ifs and buts mate, if Manchester had decent weather it could have been another win.,
Tbf if London has decent weather today the Aussies would have probably won because they didn’t even look troubled until that rain delay.
