SAFC an important thread in the tapestry of English football

They've been stinking the league out for half a decade man. The media and neutrals nationwide are clapping their hands

At least we were in the league for half a decade you mag c unt, where were you, oh the f***ing championship and telling us how great it was. Fuck me I hate mags

Well, if that's the case, why have relegations at all?

And yes, there is a stratification in the top flight of football, which I think saps the spirit of competition out of the game. But that's not the main point here. The main point is this, from a personal perspective:

My first away game was at the age of 16 when my brother, as a birthday present, took me to watch us play Wimbledon at Selhurst Park. Christian Gross, he of the Travelcard, was our manager (dear God, save me!), and we were in real danger of relegation, but had just brought Klinsmann back for his second spell. We won that day - 6-2. Was amazing. And we avoided relegation. Now, 23 years later, we're title challengers. Things change in football. OK, so Sunderland aren't doing well right now, but who knows that will happen down the line.

I reject utterly the idea that some few clubs are destined for glory with all the others making up the numbers.

Either you've got the game or your age mixed up.
Everybody knows Klinsmann didn't make his debut at Spurs after USA 94.
Some slight anachronisms in there

2010-2016, more than half a decade.

Wey, that's not the issue at all, it's more like every 'fan of another club' needs to justify their good thoughts about Sunderland by having equally distasteful thoughts about Newcastle. It's almost like they don't believe their opinions will be fully considered until they have been negative about Newcastle.

Mate, I like you as a poster but if Im honest the only people outside of the NE post codes who think you are popular is you c unts.....The rest of the world f***ing hate you. They hate the fat c unts who get their bellies out everywhere with their shit tattoos, they hate that f***ing shit chant of "Toon toon", they hate the pathetic way that you believe you are a massive club despite not winning a single f***ing thing barring the Championship in decades. They are utterly bemused by the way you smash up your own City centre when results dont go your way, they are staggered by the fact that the shittest period in SAFC history has resulted in 6 derby wins on the spin. They hate the way you punch horses, their minds are blown by the way you spell Boycoouuut.....Top and bottom is this, outside of Tyneside, NUFC are a joke.

I bet loads of fans of other clubs don't actually know that Sunderland won 6 derbies in a row. You've listed all the things you don't like about Newcastle, and because of the false concensus effect, you think all fans of other clubs think that way.

Surely this is your grievances ? I'd be amazed if anybody outside of NE postcodes knows or cares about any of the rest.

Mabye, maybe not, do you think that other fans think the Mags are a big club based on their one season under Keegan where they came 2nd in the league 20 years ago?

Ok. It was 19 years ago.
Whatever the date, the point is that things change in football.

And you're right - I've got my dates very badly mixed up. It was my 20th birthday, not my 16th. (I had to check with my brother and Lord did he take the piss!)

But regardless, 19 years ago, we were flriting with relegation, we had a manager who no-one had heard of, a squad of journeyman (with the exception of Ginola and Klinsmann), a chairman who many Spurs supporters hated and were rightly judged to be nothing greater than a mid-table club. Compare to today. Second in the League. Third last year. FA Cup semi-finalists. A great squad. A great manager. A new stadium being built. Things change.

On Tuesday you can call them your 'marra' instead of your soft southern Jessie shandy drinking terminology.
I'll give that a try, but I may get some quizzical looks! :D

Explain to them that it's north eastern dialect used to address colliery comrades, specifically those who toiled underground.

For extra Mackem kudos you could refer to female colleagues as a hewer marra.

Will have to wait till I'm back in the office week after, but I shall report back with my findings!
