Colin Orr

He lived round the corner from grandad in Silky. He would always stop for a chat as he knew I played cricket for silksworth so was always asking how I was doing. A really lovely bloke and it’s sad to hear if his passing.

RIP Colin.

Genuinely nice bloke who loved his cricket.

I hated fielding at square leg but it was always more palatable with one of the 'old school' umpires who liked a bit of crack on between deliveries - Colin was one of those.

RIP Colin.

RIP Colin, no one deserves any thing less than the greatest respect

but…… be interested to know about the letters sent to Coast league officials

It’s not who you know…..

Sad to hear.

Knew him virtually all my life being a Silky lad right from being a youngin

I remember him coming round to Silky back in the 80's to get the teams to put in the echo.

I was playing for Silky 2nds and one week we had a evening cup match. I was working at the pit and my Gaffa had a right f***ing hump with me, as I had been f***ing about at work. Anyway I was on what was called a back shift that week which meant I wouldn't finish work until after 6 which meant I was fucked for playing. There was no way he was letting me swap shifts, so I pulled a sicky for a week. Anyway they named me in the team as A N Other (it happened a bit back then) and Colin was fully aware of this. Anyway we won the cup game and I took a load of wickets, and Colin only goes and mentions it in the Echo the day after
When I went back into work the following week, my Gaffa who was deputy electrical engineer collared me straight away and he had me over to the Chief Engineers office. He was ranting and raving about me:lol: I thought im fucked here. Anyway he tells him to calm down and to leave me with him and he would deal with it. Anyway me Gaffa fucks off and he burst out laughing. Anyway rather than give me a bollocking we had a long chat about local cricket, and he basically said to me you know how much we like to support local sport (meaning the NCB) and see lads doing well, and if you are ever in that situation again we can sort it out. He straightened everything out for me. Never had to resort to that but I always managed to swap shifts after that easy enough.

Thanks Colin.

I didn't know Martin had died either - very sad.

Cracking post that. Good to hear the stories especially about who I’ve know down the years. Colin was a very decent bloke who no doubt will be missed in silksworth.
