Yeah they've been processed in Lightroom but they look fine on my screen. The brightness is only 3/10.

Are you on a mac? They look a little too dark on mine but nothing too much. Always show up a lot brighter on a mac than PC

No mate on a Dell.
Like I said They were took at dusk so they will look a little under exposed.
No drama :)

Rock hard to get the levels right on clouds.. the contrast range can break the rest of the image. Looks like it has made everything none-cloud much darker then it should be in your instance.

You could use filters on the shot, or (if you're that way inclined) HDR...

I'll have a look at them again and put them through colour effex. That has gradual filters in it's big box of tricks

More likely to be under exposed earlier in the day than dusk, and it looks like the sun was still reasonably high in the sky. Your lens will close down when shooting towards the sun, therefore you need to open it up to expose the clouds correctly. (This is what I learnt when I took some pictures when abroad of a beautiful cloudy/sunshine sky and the photos all came back underexposed).

I have to agree about them being dark. If you shot RAW, adjust the exposure slider up a stop or two and it will make a difference.

If your using a tripod, you could try bracketing your shots, with one exposure for the sky and one for the foreground and blend them together. It doesn't take very long.

Not at 8:30 pm .The first shot at Ryhope I had a 60' cliff behind me and it was pitch black due to the clouds. The Seaham shots are the same sun was just about down and behind clouds bar the odd beam or two. Thanks for the info none the less.
