Cleadon CC - Social Cricket

Cleadon Cricket Club

Reserve Squad
Good afternoon,

It has been mentioned in the DNECL that this post season Simonside Cricket Club voted to change the club name to Cleadon Cricket Club which reflects where we play at Oakleigh Gardens

We have been a one team club for a number of years now which, despite us being to get an XI out each week, bringing in new players has been quite difficult.

As part of the rebrand we have introduced a friendly/casual XI called the Cleadon Griffins. This is aimed at those who want to play cricket without the pressure of being a league/cup game and the obligation to be available every weekend.

Whether you are completely new to the sport, played many years ago and want to get back involved or simply want a change, everyone of all ages and ability is welcome at Cleadon.

As our ground is currently under used we will have the flexibility to arrange friendly games on any week night, Sunday and spare Saturdays if demand requires it.

We are holding a net session next week and will be starting our pre season nets in February. If this is of any interest to you or someone you know who may be looking to play cricket please feel free to get in touch via PM on here or contact us through our social media channels. I'm sure those who have played against us recently will vouch for us that we're a decent bunch

Likewise if your club would be interested in giving us a game, please get in touch.

cheers and roll on the summer...

All the best to everyone connected to the club . Played against Lyndene/ Neville Dene /Simonside U18’s in the old NWD League in 79&80. They played all games away and were run by Vic Watts

That would be Vic, who I recall never to wear batting gloves. Mate of Ian Reynolds, which gives the Sima/Lyndene connection re NWD circa I981/82

All the best mate!

Just an update on how we're getting on.

Since the rebrand, inception of our friendly XI and the push to get more people involved we have had some initial success. Bringing in 6 or 7 new members. The common theme amongst them being that they were unaware that there was a cricket club in Cleadon while we were called Simonside.

We've managed to arrange 5 friendlies so far with several more in the pipeline so a positive start on that front.

We have our winter nets on a Saturday morning at Boldon CA sports hall and as always everyone who would like to come along and have a go is welcome. If yourself or anyone you know, regardless of ability of experience, is interested in playing some cricket, please get in touch!

We can also be found on all social media platforms where we post regular updates as well as lightheared content

Post season update:

The 1s have a game this weekend but our social cricket team - The Cleadon Griffins concluded their season on Monday night at Wearmouth V Seaburn

The season was a success beyond on any realistic expectation. The initial target of 10 games, which we felt was ambitious, was smashed before the end of June.

We played 22 games in total, mostly midweek short format with a few weekend games thrown in there and had about 35 players make an appearance over the course of the season.

While the team was heavily supported by those already at the club we have had an influx of players arriving including those who had never held a bat before and those who had not played for years (decades in some cases). All are now signed up regulars.

We are going to get started straight away with Autumn/Winter nets and perhaps some indoor softball cricket as a taster session for anyone wanting to give it a go.

As always if you are looking for a club to get involved with, or know anyone who is, there are tonnes of playing opportunities at Cleadon across both teams. We are a message away!

Thanks!
