I know what you're saying, but that squad on paper should really have had enough to be promoted with the January reinforcements. They had good options almost all over the pitch. I think the 92 (- the points deduction) reflects that they did have a very good season in this division but the aim was obviously promotion. I can see both sides of the argument really

I didn't even realise Rak Sayki didn't make the squad.. genuinely amazed at that.

Over the course of the season Sheff U bottled it in the games against sides abóve them and around them for the most part. Add to that the collapse at the end when the top 2 was more than in reach then I would say for them it was a dreadful season. As for the play off final I think they should have had us buried in the first half even including the var decision outcome, but they didn’t and as that game wore on they bottled that as well.

He bought Canon for £10M to get promoted. It was an abysmal short term signing. How was he going to do in the Premier League if they went up? He's nowhere near that standard.

He literally pissed £10M up the wall!

Agree , disastrously, not only the fact he wasn’t good enough , his wages will have been an annoyance to the existing strikers who were quickly recalled to replace him.
 
I keep reading elsewhere that his final points return this last season would have been good enough for automatic promotion most seasons. That’s not true ! 90 points was only good enough for automatic promotion once out of the last five seasons.

I think Wilder is pretty limited as a championship manager and with the squad at his disposal not getting top two was a poor return.

That said I think stringing out his impending dismissal out in public is disrespectful for a bloke that whatever his limitations is a Sheffield United legend.

Chris Wilder and his apologists (great name for a band) will tell you that he "won 92 points" and they only finished on 90 points due to the deduction

Nothing wrong with spotting you dont have a suitable second player in a position and buying one . Goalies are the obvious example
Not every new face has to be the next big thing
Keeps first option on his toes too

Up until about 35 minutes they were on a different level to us, we then levelled the battle 35-60 the last 40minutes barring a cirkin mistake we were the only team in it. We weren’t creating a lot but once we equalised they were wobbling like fuck. Also it’s a results business, and he’s failed, like he failed automatics losing some dollys then twatting Bristol city gave them far too much expectation to win easily v us and when it wasn’t buried they choked. A beautiful day was born

The Stadium announcer belting out the goalscorer's name, I'm sure that they don't usually do that until after any potential VAR check.

There will have been a massive outpouring of emotion and adrenaline from their team celebrating that non-goal, like a sign of relief that their job was done and the Wembley/Play-Off hoo-doo constantly spoken about in the build up was off their back. Hard to pick yourself back up after that one, for us on the other hand, we got that added impetus which brought us into the game more and more.

Then the magic of not actually trying in the games in the run up to the play offs which showed that in the closing stages of games, our lads seemed to have more legs and energy than the opposition. Even during Sheff United's wobble, they were pushing and pushing to finish on as many points as possible, where as realistically they could have had a few weeks on the beach like us.
 
They'll struggle to get a manager in who loves the club or knows the area and players as much as wilder.
Always surprised me how much he failed at Boro.
92 points in a season and sacked for 1 poor week in a season
