Chris Silverwood:

I’m not usually one to get stuck into cricket coaches as I think, historically, their influence has been more limited than that of a football manager.

But decision making, team selection and man management seems to have been nothing short of shambolic under the leadership of Silverwood and Root for the best part of two years now and there seems to be few signs it’s getting better
I think it's pathetic that a Test nation like England can't produce batsmen that have a competent defence.

He needs put out his misery, the Aussie commentators were basically pissing themselves this morning at the selection

it’s just appalling. Jack Leach is well within his rights to say fuck this, I’m off home. The lad has been pissed about more than any other English cricketer I can remember. Really really shoddy

Tbh I wouldn’t of played Leach either but at least give Parkinson a go. Roots bowling today was utter garbage.

Got nowt to pick from.

I’d have played Jimmy at Brisbane and Wood over Broad here but I do t think they’d have been game changers.

I also rate Leach but sympathise as to why he couldn’t get in when Stokes was injured.

I agree about Silverwood, but let’s face it we’re shite.
We never get it right.
Once we didn’t give white ball cricket the emphasis that the rest of the world did were lagging behind.
Then we concentrated on the white ball game admittedly successfully, but to the detriment of the red ball game and this is where we find ourselves.
There needs to be a clear out at the top.

As poor as he's been, we all know this stems from the top. It's the ECB's complete contempt for the Red Ball game that's caused all of this.
Correct.

I was just thinking back to the 70s and 80s, when we generally competed better Down Under.

These days, there's central contracts, squad rotation, all sorts of coaches and analysts, and yet we are cannon fodder.

Everything is geared up for success, but it's actually worse.

The ECB have completely screwed it up and yet still expect fans to turn up at great expense for Test Matches.

They need to get the Championship right, first and foremost.

I can't speak for before 1993 but they have managed to produce arguably the worst England batting team of all time.

In the 80s caps were handed out like confetti when we got hammered at home by Windies in 84 and Australia in 89, but at least they earned them with runs and wickets at County level.

These days a promising youngster, like Pope, Crawley etc, get fast tracked without earning their stripes and developing their technique
