Chris Rigg

The transfer window has just closed and as far as I know we received zero bids for him, from anyone.

So this is all a bit OTT for me.
When do you see clubs bid for players that have just signed a new contract?

Given that Rigg has just turned 17 and putting in performances like this, I think the hype is very much warranted. He'll be on the radar of every big club in the world come January, if he's not already.

.
He is very good but Chesus wept that’s over the top.

Rooney is one of the best ever players for England. He was in the prem and unreal for Everton.

Rigg is in the championship and playing very well and is a talent without a doubt.

So OTT on this forum

wtf 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I must admit I was thinking the same. Likened to Messi at his age, £100m price tag and Man City bound and we are only on 5 pages.

Better than Rooney? FML who is saying that hahahaha

It’s all in this thread, better than Bellingham never seen a player like this since messi 😂😂😂.

I’m all aboard the Rigg train and how good he is, but Christ man, people are getting way, way ahead of themselves.

People seriously struggle with levels on this forum for some reason, he’s currently a stand out player in the championship, he could and I do think he’ll make it at a top level, but come on 😂

The majority of fans on here talk more about what players are worth than how they play.

We have Jobe and Rigg here and now. Jobe looks far better than he was last season and Rigg has jumped from the fringes of the team to looking like becoming our first choice midfielder. He contributed to all three of our goals last Saturday.

We should stop dwelling on how big their transfer fees will be. KLD will not be sharing the money out or giving away free season tickets. Nor will he necessarily spend it all on players. However, we have them for this season and maybe next if we go up. Enjoy them now.

My immediate hopes - that neither get injured playing internationals and they come back fit enough to tear Plymouth to pieces.

Thankfully I don’t think the top clubs’ recruitment departments spend there days watching shitty AI narrated YouTube channels’ videos.

However he will be on many clubs’ radars.

The club have already done well to keep him and also introduce him to the first team in the right manner over the past year or 2.

Great that we can enjoy watching him in a red and white shirt right now.

Who knows what will happen in the future - no point stressing and speculating about it at the moment IMO.

£50m each for two of the best young prospects in Europe ?. Not at all out of the way.
Not saying we'll get it but thats todays values

I've watched Sunderland for over 45 years and I've never seen a 17 year old like Chris Rigg.

He's made 3 out of 4 starts in August and easily won player of the month for a side top of the league.

He has the potential to be our best home grown player since Raich Carter nearly a 100 years ago.

That's how special a talent he is.

Obvious
High praise indeed that like mate.

Might be slightly over the top but fair play

I said he’s the best I’ve seen for Sunderland like you’ve upped the game a bit there haha
Obviously hasn't watched Yamal or Endrick.

Rigg is a potential star in the making, but not the best 17 year old we've seen break through in the past year or so.

Lots of others have played more than him and at a higher level, never mind others further back in time

It’s a hypothetical conversation about where is best for a young player. I think Man Utd (and Chelsea) would be poor decisions. It’s not really about his ability

I agree some of the chat is OTT. Saying he’d be in the senior team if he was a PL player or he’s akin to Rooney at 17 is over the top
I dunno why I’ve found this so funny

Aye you can tell he’s going to be tall and strong because he… already is!

My senses tell me Jobe will have black hair

Playing upfront or on the wing is a completely different game to playing in centre midfield.

It's the engine room of a team. An incredibly competitive area of the pitch with the least amount of space. Rigg is winning MotM in there most weeks at 17. It's an incredible standard for a slight kid of his age.

He is the best footballer I’ve seen at his age since I watched Messi’s debut.

He is so special and we’ve done so well to have him sign a contract.

Almost like he’s built in a lab for Pep’s City. As good off as he is on the ball.
Personally I think foden is the chosen one, rigg is an amazing talent, but foden was doing it against premier league opponents at that age wasn’t he?

There’s loads more mate. It’s obviously not a dig at rigg in anyway as he’s clearly outstanding but comments like that just look silly like.

Fodens breakthrough season was when he was 17 and played 5 PL games, mainly from the bench.

Thing is Foden was surrounded by quality players, I've no doubt you could drop Rigg into Citys midfield off the bench sporadically and he would be comfortable. Good footballers enhance good footballers.

The likes of Anderson, Gray and Hackney couldn't lace Rigg's boots. Gray is only 18, on Spurs bench but is only getting picked because he cost £40M. I watched us play down Leeds, watched him closely and thought he was bang average.

I haven't seen enough of the others to pass comment. Scott only on the bench for Bournemouth, there seems to be a policy of picking expensive bench warmers. Rigg has made a great decision to stay and play IMO.

I would stick a price of £100M on Rigg's head. If Moses Caicedo is worth that he's got to be up there.

Literally every Premier League club is aware of Rigg. If you can start a bidding war the sky is the limit for his value. All he needs to add to his game to bump the price up is a few goals. He scored for fun at youth level, they'll come.
He got the equivalent of 1 in 5 last season across his game time. Not a bad start

I think we need a bit of perspective here mind.

Rigg is excellent, he looks to be an exceptional talent and playing well beyond his years. However “better than Henderson” “better than Jude Bellingham” and “the biggest talent since Rooney” these are huge claims.
Jordan Henderson at the same age was doing Skill School on Soccer AM. Rigg is running games in the Championship. Love Jordan and he has had an outstanding and i mean outstanding career but Rigg is on a different level trajectory wise.

He was a bit part player for City at 17, no shame in that!

He captained England to the under 17 world cup and was voted player of the tournament. He was a brilliant player at that age but although he is comparible to Rigg in build he's not the same type of player really. He's a 10 or a wide player.

Rigg is an 8, a box to box midfielder with far more defensive nous than Foden.
